Shark-Jumping begins with Season 4

It feels like I'm watching a different show! Seasons 1-3 were AWESOME. Season 3, I find myself bored, doing other things, eye-rolling, etc. The writing is terrible, and the portrayals reflect it. Season 4 is terrible, so I'm actually relieved that there is only one more season after this one.

It's a shame, too, because I think the first three seasons were fabulous!

Agreed. i came on this board to post the exact same thing. i am in the middle of watching season 5 and scratching my head thinking. this isn't the same show as season 1? since when is this show about bill being a politician? I want the show to stay focused on the family. I loved the first 3 seasons because it focused on the relationships between the wives and bill.

I also wanted to see the relationship between marg and ben grow and get them to have an affair.

if season 5 was about marg and ben having an affair instead of bill being a politician. it would've been a much better show.

Honestly, I think the middle of season 3 is when it starts going off the rails. But yeah season 4 is pretty out there. I think the main problem is the short episode orders. Season 2 is my favorite, and I think it's because 12 episodes was the perfect length to fit all of the writers' ideas for the years in. Season 3 at 10 episodes was compressed, and season 4 with 9 was even worse. They seemed to finally understand to just trim the fat in season 5, which has fairly simple storylines and excises some characters like Joey and Wanda. Season 5 is my second favorite, I feel like they found their footing just in time for the ending. (Though the ending itself was kind of random.)

Season 4 was my least favorite as well. They picked it up again for season 5, though.
