Stroker and hoop cancelled?

Did this show get cancelled? I dont see it on the sunday night lineup anymore. Anybody have any info?

reply

New episodes will resume around mid-November, they're just giving way for the new shows Squidbillies and 12 Oz. Mouse.

You stay classy! :)

It'd be nice if it was cancelled, but that's just my personal opinion. I'll just choose not to watch it and give it the TGTTM treatment. I dunno, maybe I'll appreciate it later, but I doubt it.

Perhaps it's just a matter of different senses of humor. Some find the likes of Robot Chicken and shows like that hilarious, as do I, while others just don't get it. There are those who love the humor on Tom and Stroker. Then you got people who like everything they see on [as], power to them. Maybe its an age thing and Tom (and Stroker) might be directed to a certain age or demographic. I get a lot of the jokes, they just aren't funny, which makes me bored, that's all. So there are possibly 2 or 3 shows I'll skip because its just not my taste. They have my support for most of their programming anyway, they can afford a few misses.

As for me personally, I tried giving Tom a chance, a few times, but it wasn't working out. I like the animation, but their sense of humor isn't really funny to me. I checked out some other things they do outside Tom, and it's not just Tom, its them. Which is okay, because I'm not going to enjoy everything I see/hear. I'll just tune out rather than complain about having it cancelled so I can enjoy my high quality entertainment block all in one continuous sitting.

True and the reason why it's not funny is that they try to make
fun of situations /gags that aren't that funny to begin with, so it's
not so much that "it's out there" the jokes are just lame, like the
repeat where Tom gets his "Rats of to you" T-Shirt stolen. But as you
said different taste. It's great if Stroker and Hoop come back
for another season. Squidbillies isn't all that good and 12 oz. mouse
is so bad it hurts.

Oh, God, 12 oz. mouse...what the *beep* is with that show?
Why on earth did adult swim allow it on the air?
The whole show looks like it's animated using standard paint shop on a computer by 4 year olds.
It's not funny in any way.
And neither is Squidbillies.
I expect more from the guys who brought us Aqua Teens, but I guess they blew all their good ideas on Aqua Teens.

Agreed totally. Was disappointed to setup TIVO season pass to record upcoming stroker and hoops only to see them taken away for 12oz and squid. These two shows are so freakin stupid I thought CN was playing a one time joke. Not only is the animation horrible on 12oz its just not funny. And squid is not funny either, had to turn both after 7 minutes.
And boy do I hate all the Japanimation stuff they put on adult swim. I just dont get that stuff, arent cartoons supposed to be funny? At least thats why I watched them all my 35yrs of life. Japanimation tries too hard at trying to look artistic and dramatic. Animations should be funny, leave drama to live acting. Either that or give Japanese cartoons there own channel that we dont have to turn to.

reply

Yeah, I hate all the anime crap, too.
Inuyasha is ok in small doses.
Trigun was ok, too, but they got rid of that pretty quick.
But now they just go overboard on it.
What pisses me off is that they mixed it all back in with regular AS again.
It used to be all the anime crap was on saturdays and then regular AS on sunday.
Now it's all jumbled around again.
And what the hell is with the Boondocks?
If it took your 4 years to get it on the air, maybe there's a reason?

lol boondocks has good ratings so dont expect it to dissapear and give the show a chance is pretty funny.
they give anime after 12:30 on weekdays and on saturday is anime.Try full metal alchemist is actualy a pretty good show inuyasha is one of those shows where u have to catch it ffrom the begining to like it.

i dont like the squidbillies or tom goes to the mayor eventhough i found certain episodes funny, the 12 oz mouse and robot chicken are not good they should be playing those at 5 am lol.Stroker and hoop are funny but its not for everyone some people get it some dont.ANd sealab is great but harvery birdman is garbage.

but i like how they give a chance to certain cartoons that need to grow a fanbase.

Harvey Birdman garbage-HA,HA!
You sound like a youngster. Just wait 'till your brain can compute 4 jokes a second, then you may laugh with the rest of us.

You clearly have no taste... in anything.

Because ALL Animation should be Funny... yes?

Meh...

It's clearly not meant for you, now is it?

But yes... 12 Oz. Mouse/Squidbillies = Crap

also...

Japanimation? Erm... Yeah. Nice use of 80's lingo.

A) Animé isn't trying to look like anything but the way it always has. It's been the way cartoons have evolved in Japan, ever since they were hand-drawn. It's just not the western style, so we see it in relationship to that.

B) There is a Cartoon Network channel that is only for animé, but it's not available everywhere, so they keep animé on their regular line-up as well, for the people who can't get the specialty channel.

Glad to see you guys support 12 Oz. Mouse and all of his hilarious antics!

Don't miss the marathon on saturday, december 31 at midnight!

Keep watching!

I don't really lump Tom Goes To the Mayor and Stroker & Hoop together. Tom Goes to the Mayor is a television abortion, I feel, while Stroker & Hoop is pretty funny.

... the show won't be back for season 2.

This is probably the first Adult Swim original not to last for more than one season.

Here's the entry from the Williams Street blog:

So, I guess I am allowed to say it officially now. Stroker & Hoop is not coming back for a second season. I feel so many different things right now.

I loved Stroker & Hoop. I think I would still really enjoy it, even if I did not work on it. It fits more in the mode of the animated shows that have always been favorites: King of the Hill, Futurama, Mission Hill, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

But the fact of the matter is, I did work on it. I owe a lot to that show and even more to Casper and Jeff. I learned a lot about how to write long form from them. I can tell that my stories are better than they used to be.

When I first joined Stroker, I was kind of freaked out to be in the room with so many talented people. I was quiet and hardly ever made jokes. I did not know what to do around people like Lazzo and Ouweleen. But in time, I got more and more confident and Jeff and Casper really encouraged me to make jokes all the time. It was great doing table reads and getting a shot to "perform" Stroker. I have always projected a kind of confidence, I think, but a lot of that was an act. After working on this show though, I felt like I really was a lot more confident than I used to be. It is weird to think that I used to be kind of scared of those guys. Stroker & Hoop helped me break down some of those walls I made for myself and really stand up and be a creative force at Cartoon and Adult Swim.

Thanks, Jeff and Casper, for letting me be a part of this. I am very honored and am extremly proud of the work we have done. Ninja Worrier has a big place in my heart and XXX-Wife is also amazing. I think we have some really classic episodes. It is great that people found it funny and that the reviews were so great.

Thank you to everyone for everything and for this great run for a great show.

--Merrill Hagan

However, the creators were kind enough to provide details on what could have been the 2nd season opener.

Hey -- It's Casper and Jeff, the creators of Stroker & Hoop. Thanks a ton to everyone who watched, laughed at, and fought for the show. It means more to us than you know, and so we won't leave you hanging.

We had season 2 mapped out and here is how it was going to start:

Stroker and Hoop died in the crash. Double-Wide survived, and was hanging on by a thread in the burn ward and having visions of Stroker and Hoop in the afterlife. Sadly, Hoop was being sent to lettuce Hell on a technicality (long story about lettuce hell). With Keith and CARR's help (CARR's brain and a hubcap survived the crash), Doublewide built a flat-liner device and had Keith pack his body on ice while he attempted an afterlife rescue mission. Just as Double-Wide was about to succeed, the doctors burst in and revived him. So in a last-ditch attempt to save his buddies, Double-Wide shot himself and Coroner Rick. Once in the afterlife, DW and CR teamed up with Stroker's dead dad (who was a custodian in limbo) and a dead Ninja (the one Hoop shot in episode 6) to try and save Hoop. After Stroker put together a series of small clues that culminated with God getting killed. For 20 minutes (the time it takes God's soul to return to the afterlife), there was no God around. Which gave Stroker, Hoop, Double-Wide, Coroner Rick, Stroker's dead Dad -- and a ton of people who had been quite justifiably condemned to Hell -- just enough time to escape back to Earth.

Thanks again.

We'll be back.

--Casper Kelly and Jeff Olsen

The second part was a fan making that up. The creators did not state what they had planned for season 2. And the cancelling of stroker and hoop was not by adult swim! It was by the creators themselves. The creators felt that the shows budget was too big to continue...

I'm sorry to say that I might be the "LOTS" to blame. When I saw the commercial of this, I wasn't really interested. So I never watched. Now, I love this damn thing. Like soda contest, my contributions came to late. Fu ck Pepsi.

Stroker and Hoop was one of the best things on Adult swim. I found it a lot funnier than crap like Tom goes to the mayor, Squidbillies or that Oz. Mouse thing. I find Stroker and Hoop was better than some of the more recent seasons of the Simpsons which have been admittedly horrible.

Republicans dont watch stand up, theyre busy watching cartoons, trying to see who's gay.

I'm gutted that this has been cancelled

And I agree with the views that 12oz mouse and squidbillies suck.....soon as they come on, I hit the off button

reply

Well, that's TV for you. They'll give you a taste of GENIUS (Stroker & Hoop), and then rip your heart out and force feed you GARBAGE (Tim & Eric).
