Mining town stories


I have been to Opal fields in australia and it would help viewers if they knew more about opal mining towns in Australia.
last year my wife an d i drove 8,000 kilometers to visit opal mines and towns in Australia and you could nearly write book about ..\
But do read this Forum about opal mining as it will help you relate more to this story and opal town hardships. please copy and paste

I agree, I have spent time in Coober Pedy and it was delightful and you really cannot understand the film unless you have been there.

As an American fan of this movie, I had no knowledge of this Australian mining region prior to seeing the movie. But by co-incidence I happened to pick up an Australian travel DVD at our public library. It had a segment on the Cooper Peby mining region and the people who lived there. And it has helped me further to enjoy this fine movie.

Of course we have many mining areas in the U.S. too. I think mining draws a particular kind of person regardless of the particular country. I think this universal feature helps to make "Opal Dream" both very particular in its setting, but allows the viewer to understand the movie regardless of where he/she is.

There are more mining areas in Australia than just Coober Pedy and its opal mines. The hardest stories of Australian mining are from towns like Moura and Mt Isa.
