My husband and I saw this at Coober Pedy (where it was filmed) about a month ago. We happened to be there and it was the talk of the town, this movie which was filmed right there! It was a great movie, but I really felt let down by the ending, because I wanted to know what happened next!

I saw the film when I was at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August 2006. It was simply wonderful. I am very eager for it to be available on DVD so I can show it to my US friends.

It should be out on DVD in January if not a bit before. Can't wait as I know some of the actors the kids were great christian is doing really well for himself as there are two more movies coming out in next year with him in it

I do have this DVD now, I got it from EzyDVD (Australia) if anyone wants to get it. I also borrowed the book from the library and it was a bit depressing the way the book ended the story! The movie was a bit nicer. The movie changed the book's setting to Coober Pedy instead of Lightning Ridge, but they are both extremely well known for opals, so it still worked well. I went to Coober Pedy and loved the place, although I don't know if I would want to live there. But it's a fascinating town. All their trees are planted there carefully - no trees are native to the area, so they treat them with respect and care for them. You have to pay for water at the caravan park and you can buy water in the street, but it's very cheap - it's just to remind you that water is a scarce resource in the town. There's something very magical about Coober Pedy - I would recommend that anyone interested must go there. I will definitely be going back someday.
