They've already screwed up!

Now, I know they make it so that movies aren't EXCATLY like the books, and Ella Enchanted is more than the perfect example for that but come on! For one thing, she's NOT DIVORCED and she has curly, unmangabled black hair! And yes, I know this sounds a lot like The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez, but you've got to read the book! The book kicked major butt. I couldn't put it down. And now they're screwing it up. I'm still going to watch it, but I can't say I'll like it better than the book because it won't replace the book. I can't imagine a better actor than Dean Cain to play Nick though.

I totally agree with you, I read the book also. I can't believe denise richards is playing the main character! I hope it isn't messed up too bad.

ok i'm with you, i loved the book, i've read it so many times you cant read the spine of the book anymore its so faded, but i beg to differ, she IS divorced in the book, why else does she get so furious with Brad when he defiantly tells Nick that he is her husband, there is even a whole paragraph or two where she talks about the day she signed the papers and her mother is constantly harassing her about the divorce!

reply

I agree that the book is much better, but she was indeed divorced in both. They did however mess up a lot more in the movie. People should really read Cara Lockwood's book. All of her books in fact. I just finished Dixieland Sushi, which was great and I read she is writing a new book titled I Did (But I Wish I Hadn't).

I just finished reading this book and LOVED it. I too couldn't put it down, it was so excellent. I haven't watched the movie yet, I was a little hesitant to do so since Denise Richardson is Lauren. I said the same as you, Lauren was supposed to have dark curly crazy hair. Oh well, I suppose I should just watch the movie and make judgment then, but I'm positive the book will still be better.

I have read I Do but I Don't, and I Did but I Wouldn't Now. They're both excellent books. I Do the movie version, didn't do the story justice and changed way too many things. The character of Lauren just wasn't right. I was quite disappointed.

I have emailed the author Cara Lockwood a couple of times discussing what books of hers I'm reading, and she's very nice and down to earth.

If you like Cara's books, Dixieland Sushi is a great read also!

I'm reading the book right now and it's amazing, so I came on this web site to see who plays the characters in the book. And there were different names. I'm assuming that Bonnie is Diane, and Cookie is Missy (Ms Davenport, Darla's rich aunt) is that correct. And even the change of Nick's last name, Corina, instead of Corona. What gives, even something so small has to be changed, I wonder why that is, it's not the first time that has happened. I find in alot of books made into movies they change the most tiniest things. I found that in Where the heart is and Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Anyway, I'm going to finish reading the book, then try to find the movie here in Canada. Hope it's not too disappointing though.

It's not as though Deanie-boy is unfamiliar with portraying handsome, strong yet gentle heroes :-)

Dean Cain was a perfect Nick but like everyone, I agree that the rest of the movie was a total travesty! Denise Richards was not a good choice for Lauren at all! The book is one of my favorites so yeah, it was very upsetting to try and watch the movie. I couldn't stomach it.

Don't forget, in the book, the boss had a cat not a dog. AND in the book Nick helped Lauren home from the reception(or what was supposed to be the reception) and her house was set on fire by her sister's ex boyfriend.

I think it's sort of an unwritten rule in Hollywood, when adapting a book to a screenplay, to make it as unlike the original as possible. I mean, heck, we couldn't POSSIBLY like the book as it is to see it that way, so if they change it we'll like it better. Especially if they change things and people etc, and totally CHANGE the story. Makes no sense at all. I hate movies that are adapted from books because nine times out of ten the movies are way awful!

I've never read the book, but from what I've read on here, I'll definitely be putting it on my "to read" list.

oh, it's you. ;P

Ok I haven't read the book but I was watching this today and unintentionally nitpicked it. I blame the monthly plauge for that.

but my points of contention are as follows:

1, a sprained ankle does NOT hurt that bad, while running an obstical course (and I still got up and finished, in just over 1 minute. still came in first place for the girls that week). I've sprained my left ankle and my right foot, which was worse than the ankle. Neither time was I given or even offered pain meds. With the foot, I was told to stay off it, but was not perscribed crutches. I limped for a few days, yes, that's right, days. So it's impossible for Lauren to be walking as if nothing happened a mere 24 hours later. Especially if she was given 2 percaset (which I don't take any meds, but that seems like over kill to me).

2, shadowland/park/whatever it was. HUH? We don't have any place remotly called that in Chicago. We especially don't have any place that even LOOKS like it here. which brings me to my next point....

3, It's CFD, NOT MFD. What the heck? Did the movie go from Chicago to Metropolis right after J tells Lauren Nick is in Wrigglyville? I have seen Chicago fire trucks in person, they don't say MFD. In fact, I have a picture of one I took less than a month ago.

4, obviously not filmed in IL, much less Chicago. I'm guessing it was Canada.

More to come when I thnk about it.
