A worthy effort

Since there is no discussion here yet and I have just seen this doc, I will say a few words.

It is a worthy effort. It effectively paints a sad picture of dying hope for Tibet. There are several very good, very poignant scenes.

It is a bit unfortunate that it is so lacking in vibrancy. The tone is slow, gloomy - not particularly attractive to a modern audience. Even the narrator's voice can almost put you to sleep. Gloomy monotone.

I'm not saying any of that is inappropriate. On the contrary. It's just that I can picture a young person getting 15 minutes into it saying, "BOOOOOOORING!" and shutting it off.

But it is aimed at an intelligent viewer with some appreciation of subtlety I think. Within the patient, methodical delivery, there really are some very powerful scenes.

I am better informed and educated for having seen it.

I don't know if anyone would say that it's boring per say, but there is a gloom that surrounds it that by the end of the film I felt like there's nothing I can do. That Tibet has been tortured to such an extent there's nothing I can do for them now.
