I haven't seen scene as brilliant as this

Remember when Esteban came back to old man's wife after accidentally killing her husband and dog started sniffing his shoes and then his pocket? The dog looked at Esteban's eyes with pure understanding human eyes and Esteban understood that dog got it all. I was shocked. It was pure masterpiece scene. I haven't seen anything like that.

Agreed. So subtle, and yet so powerful.

I just watched it today and had to rewind that scene a few times and review it over and over (it is about one hour into the movie). That (wolf) dog's eyes were just so accusatory - it was as if the dog was a great actor and able to take and execute great direction from the director.

Granted, part of the overall feeling in that scene comes from the high-over-the-shoulder camera vantage point.

It was just incredible as to be almost spooky how that dog got the intent over non-verbally. More than just the eye(s), I think it also had to do with the subtle set of the jaw, jowls, eyebrows/forehead. The non-verbal communication and "knowing" is instantly recognizable and universal - but here, it's coming from a dog!

(Hey, "Klaatu" - your namesake ID is from one of my favorite films from the 50's, too!)

Yes, it's true. You've got to stare back at them in wonder and amazement... and silence!
