Hercules Daddy...

So according to the movie....was the bull thing actually Hercules dad or was it truely Zeus?... I was totally lost...

Apparently this movie wants us to think Hercules's dad was the bull thing guy, even though the myths all pegged him as the son of Zeus.

*shrugs* I'm of the impression that Zeus had a little fun with Alchemene (sp?), by way of that obsessive "Cretan Bull" wanna-be. If said character (forget his name, and would rather not remember) had been in possession of his, admittedly, dubious senses, I very much doubt that he would have raped the high priestess of his patron goddess. As evidenced by the storm, Zeus was definitely there that night and very easily could have taken over the guy's body. Whether or not that makes Herc his biological son is debatable, but Zeus might well be his father in spirit. I keep thinking of that lightning strike of his when Hercules tried to kill himself, of what it could mean. Granted, it could just be that the king of the gods wanted to see justice be done and that it'd be pretty hard for such a thing to come about with Herc dead, but I'm still inclined to believe that Zeus was protecting his son. After all, our favorite "demi-god" seemed to have more than his fair share of near-death experiences, and yet even as a baby he always managed to escape somehow. Coincidence? Luck, maybe? ^_~ You be the judge.

Wow, I never thought of it that way, JonsAngelCat. You're opinion about Hercules' father makes sense. I agree with you.

The movie had a number of holes. It seemed to be implied the bull-guy was his father, but then it was never explained why the bull-guy became powerless when he wasn't in contact with the earth -- unless we are to believe it was only because he believed it -- which was kind of stupid. If you don't believe you have the strength to open a door, guess what, you can still open it.
