Been to jail and prison and you don't break on the first and second day

they only made it six days what a joke and if this was a true story i would of still kicked the ass of the CO who over acted in the experiment when it was done.

True story. Kid was crying after 1 day in the digger. They would have all been in PC.......

reply

Most inmates go PC day 1, they just can't handle life.

reply

Uh... this is a little different considering they weren't criminals and also had no access to fresh air. They were also in a very confined space.

Obviously prison and jail sucks really bad, but its pretty easy to see how people would crack under these conditions.

We know you're a tough guy, too. No need to flex your internet muscles.

reply

have you been in jail the new prisons , well sorry they are like that no air no yards or fresh air there max to the max and the pre trial centers are worse even.

Also criminals do not know jail it was a first at one time for them also the difference is the weakest run to PC but as the gaurds tell you before you check in if you do thats it because once your there you can not switch back to gen pop . Also in this country just saying your a PC is a beating as 80% of PC are child molesters or rapists and the true scum of society . you are so far off i think you have been watching shawshank redemption thinking its like that or some juvenile jail show because man you are so wrong about prisons and life in there. Confined space really compared to the units that you never leave now when your in prison they had a huge area now days its 60 to 80 guys in a area thats no bigger than a main floor of a house and they wonder why there fights constantly.

reply

Not sure what country you got that info from, I can assure you based on every day first hand experience that this is NOT going on in the United States. inmates in the USA are coddled and receive first rate care and treatment, this isn't the 1970's anymore, relax.

reply

I was in county for ten days and I wasn't let out of my cell ONCE. And keep in mind there's like 4 to 5 other guys in this cell at any given time.

I think you need to take into account that this movie had kids without any sort of training in how to operate a correctional facility. The lead guard figure was a vindictive freak - something that wouldn't normally be allowed in a typical American jail. Also, the prisoners were just typical young kids without prior exposure to the streets or crime and punishment. So this particular cocktail of personalities lead to pandemonium - something I can see as realistic.

It is definitely a true story, you can even look into the actual footage from the experiment that was released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpDVFp3FM_4

Lol, like someone else said, the participants weren't criminals, like yourself, just ordinary young men. Criminals, like yourself, have different ethics and ideas about righta nd wrong, and therefore their responses are different.

Having never committed a crime and placed value on things that progress instead of degrade, I too would start to go nuts like 8612. One of the reasons why I actively try and follow the rules to stay out of prison.

One last thing, ever drop the soap buddy?

Lots of people that aren't criminals get locked up over the weekend. Bar fight, DWI, Drunk GF makes *beep* up and calls the cops on you. Anyway I couldn't believe these guys were freaking out on day 2.

Marine Corps Boot Camp for 3 months was a lot worse!

Both parties took part in experiment and they didn't have experience of being a prisoner or a guard. When you go Marine Corps Boot Camp, you have knowledge what it is and are going to Boot Camp which has instructors that know what to do and they inform what they expect from you. But if you are computer geek and are expecting to go computer camp, but end up in Boot camp it is different situation or maybe in your case you're expecting to go Boot camp but end up in a basket weaving camp and they haze you, because you're not fast and good enough to weave baskets.

Usually physical stress is much easier to cope than mental. I know that there is mental stress in army, but if severe symptoms occur people are removed from the premises. It is not always Full Metal Jacket style hazing to the breaking point.

Well, there are big differences between this experiment and real prison. The first difference is that none of these students were guilty of the crime that put them into this "prison", whereas in a real prison, the prisoners kind of know that they earned this punishment.

But, I understand for this experiment, they had to compress the abuse of a couple of years in prison down to two weeks. It was an interesting movie for what it was, but it wasn't a simulation of real prison.

Hate to break it to you, but there's a lots of people in prison right now you haven't earned the punishment and are being subjected to cruelty beyond measure.

Black men and a whole lot of *beep* white men have had plenty fun adoring my ass!

Maybe some. But not 12 out of every 12, as it was in this case.
