My problem with the film (the ending)

My problem with the film is with the "plot ambiguity" about what happens at the end. It serves absolutely no purpose. I like thematic ambiguity, ie. ambiguity that surrounds a thematic question which has no definitive answer. I appreciate ambiguity that results from an exploration of ideas and themes, which are then left open to possibilities. I don't like "plot ambiguity", where we're not told what happens to the characters, or when story details are unclear.

This film ends after suggesting that Keane may be abducting Kira, or at least considering it. There's an air of foreboding to what Keane does in the last 5 minutes or so, taking the girl away from her mom, and re-enacting the scene of his daughter's abduction seemingly through the abductor's eyes. Fishy scene, but then, nothing happens. Will he really take her back to her mom or not? It just ends. What have I gained not knowing that? Not much that I can think of.

He does take her back to her mom. He reconsiders the abduction after realizing that it was his fault he lost his daughter.

That's possible but we can't know for sure that this is what happens.

You can be pretty sure. If you watched it again, you can tell that he changes his mind. He wouldn't have emotionally broken down, walked up to her, tell her that he's going to take her back to her mom and then tell her he loved her, if he was just going to abduct her right after that.

WTF?? Did you even watch the movie??? The ONLY reason that he took her
to the bus depot was to simply relive the experience and also in some
crazy way to actually see if he let this girl do the exact same thing
that may, just maybe it would draw out the abductor of his daughter.
once he basically got it out of system, and realized it wasn't his fault
and that he wasn't responsible for the sick type of person that would
kidnap a kid, he knows its time to go back and bring the girl back to
mom.

and for these people who are saying that he is delusional and that
the girl is in his head, I just watch this, and repeated scenes,
and have found NO evidence that she was not real. He might be
seriously on edge, and I think he might have missed his meds.

To me the ending was not ambiguous nor bad. I think it was positive
in that he has forgiven himself and maybe can move on..

The only appropriate response to your pathetic irritability is "Grow up."

The poster right above you gives a completely opposite interpreatation to yours. Which immediately proves that there is no "ONLY reason that he took her to the bus depot" which everybody can agree on.

Given the way you started your post though, it wouldn't be surprising if in your next reply you simply went for childish digs at both of us in this thread who can't see things as crystal-clear as you do.

It only proves that people simply don't pay attention to the movies
they are watching or over analyzed a scene that didn't require any
thought.

"Whoa, look at the big brain on Brad!"
"You appear intelligent, but when you open your mouth, the effect is spoiled"
