I noticed in "User Comments " those who gave this film low ratings & posted their reviews all stated they read the book...hmmmm. Well I haven't read the book & have the opportunity to dL the movie, as w/ many others who will b here to read reviews, and the trailer looks good to me, has anyone else watched it "who haven't read the book"?? How was it to you?

never read the book but i enjoyed the movie. sure it may have been a bit dark, but it is a fairytale and don't fairytales tend to be dark. was not virtually all of the old disney cartoons dark. snow white, sleeping beauty were all very dark. this was light compared to those nightmarish tales of dragons and witches. it did move a bit slow, but the animation was crisp and the story well done.
sharei have not read the book, but i found this movie to be very wasteful. the more i think about it, the less i liked it. voted 6 at first, but plan on lowering it soon. the total lack of continuity and the need to tell three stories left us all wanting. keep thinking i missed part of the movie and wanted to rewind it. that is an editing problem, which is there to fix the mistakes from the writers. the title says it is about despereaux, but he is just one of the many characters and story lines. more narration would not have helped, but more development and connections might have. everyone talks about it being dark, which can be an element of life, but this whole thing is just dreary and morose.
