So what's the deal? *Spoilers*

I sat through the whole movie and I am just glad about one thing. I thought the mouse would transform into a prince after a kiss from the princess. Thank God..there was nothing as pukey as that. So what's the deal? Now they make soup and it rains, but in the end the princess is still stuck talking to a rat and a mouse. Some happy ending

Your conclusion confuses me. Do you think a young girl needs a prince and that's the only answer to Happily Ever After? Or did you realize that she gained so much in both her new friendships (mouse and rat where symbols of other people but made as animals to interest the kids) and the relationship she was now establishing her her father? Girls do not need to be indoctrinated with the belief that only the Prince can give their life fulfillment and joy. Friends and family in many cases last longer than relationships. A dad that realizes the importance of showing his daughter love will raise a happier daughter who doesn't place her self-worth in the acceptance and approval of a man. She will not look for love as though it will fulfill her life, she'll instead find love as a part of living her life fully. I loved that both daughters, the Princess and Miggery Sow found both forgiveness and renewed relationships with their dads that benefitted both the dad and daughter. I was glad to see that empathsis was placed on good friendships and family as being "happily ever after".

You misunderstood the OP. She was saying that the movie was so bad in its resolution but it would have been worse if the mouse turned into a prince. I think the OP also finds it problematic that the princess is supposed to be happy just being in her own world inside the palace. I thought the princess is such a old-fashioned character. She doesn't do anything the whole time except displaying hope that the narrator somehow makes into this wonderful thing that keeps you from being prisoner even if you are a prisoner. I hated that character and it was a waste of Emma Watson. Who creates a princess that waits for a prince in 2000s? She puffs and sighs and says she misses even the rats and when the rat shows up saying sorry she goes all crazy and screams. Even kids would be annoyed at such a scene. If a rat said gently sorry and such things you wait and and listen instead of throwing a fit when it didn't even move. At the end she can just say I'm sorry and everything is okay and the rat is supposed to feel all absolved and better. That's really not very satisfactory.
