The Ending

The first few times I saw this movie I didn't like the ending because it didn't really resolve anything and seemed to just quickly put a happy spin on everything ("And once he came out, everyone accepted him and there was much rejoicing.")

But I've come to appreciate the ending because it seems true to real life and to the story and characters. Rather than try to resolve everything in a big sweeping gesture at the end they just continued the story at the same pace with what realistically would have happened and then just stopped telling the story when he got back from the trip. So it feels like a realistic cutout of a segment of Tobi's life - obviously he has a lot to go through when everyone at home finds out he's gay (I'm guessing rural Bavaria isn't super gay-friendly but who knows - and on a side note what will Schorsi's dad do to Hansi and Schorsi when he finds out what happened) and he has to see how his friends will really treat him on a day to day basis and most importantly who knows what his relationship with Achim will be like - but rather than trying to wrap all that up into some Hollywood ending they just stop telling the story, so I like it.
