Similar to Anybody Else's 'Coming Out'?

I thought this movie was extremely realistic on many levels. Not all of us were on a rowing team, etc, but I thought there were many parts of this story that probably reflected a LOT of our experiences struggling to come out. For example:

1) Forming a crush on a good, if not best friend.
2) Refusing to have sex with a girl, but telling others that you did.
3) Your first exposure to a group of gay men, who all seemed content with themselves, and those feelings of curiosity and even jealousy while watching them be themselves.
4) Being the clown and "funny guy" around everybody to shield your insecurities
5) That first "kiss" and how it helped you realize almost immediately that yes, you were gay.
6) And for me, I loved the part where he finally admitted he was gay and then couldn't help but smiling--for me, it was very similar. By the time I finally said it out loud, the crying and tears were over, and I was thrilled that I had finally spit the words out of my mouth!

Anybody else find other parts to be realistic or reflective of their own lives?

Definitely a lot like my coming out experience. Mine was a little earlier, between 9th and 10th grades, but the setting was actually really similar which is what attracted me to this film in the first place... I was at a sailing camp and one thing led to another an I made out with this really cute blond guy. I didn't come out to everyone at the camp or anything, but I did tell my Mom when I got home and then told all of my friends at home too... The very last scene was very moving and personal to me so. Ok, I'm done rambling now.

Loved this movie and the simplicity and beauty of the story.

I had a similar camp experience, except mine was confirmation camp, so there were no hot makeout sessions!!! I do remember the guy I had a crush on making out with this girl at the dance literally two feet away from me!! It was strange-it felt like it was done in spite, similar to what the scene in the movie felt like.

Even though Achim is supposedly straight-I think he is more than a little conflicted about his friendship....

I'm not totally out. All my friends know I'm bi but I'm still working on how to tell my family.

Not for me.

1) My male friends in high school weren't attractive.
2) I knew I was gay at around 11yrs old so sex with a female wasn't really an option.
3) My first known exposure to a gay male was when they bought in a few gay and lesbian people to talk to my high school about tolerance or something and all I can remember from that situation was the one person who knew I was gay at that time pointed at the guy who was talking to us in a "are you interested?" kind of way and me pulling the most "wtf! he's fugly!" face I could.
4) I was "goth" and seen as most likely to go on a killing spree so not really the clown, but possibly a different kind of shield.
5) was more relieved
6) only told three people, one of them filled in everyone else.
