How did this movie do in France or Argentina?

Or elsewhere? Was it a great success or just lukewarm? Cheers.

Sorry, I've never seen it.

If by "great success" you mean Titanic, that wouldn't apply to this film, an "arthouse" product not geared to the masses, on a subject that would never please the masses anyway. (If it had concerned female protitution, that would have been something else.)

Although it is an important item in the filmography of one of Argentina's major auteurs, the young man who plays Victor (a popular soap-opera heartthrob with a huge following among servant girls) hardly even mentions it in his web-site.

In Argentina, Ronda nocturna was well-received by the more intellectual film critics (the ones who write for beauty-parlor-type 'zines ignored it) and among an educated minority.

It affords an unforgettable view of life in the city of Buenos Aires, the best such film since Happy Together (1993.)
