i tried looking for a confirmed news regarding PGL's nomination, but as for now, nothing has been found. so, DON'T hope for anything yet. I'll post up news regarding this if i have found confirmed news.

so, the only thing that we can do for now is to wait UNTIL the nominees are reaad out for this category. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the nominees for Best Foreign Film will be announced on January 25 2005, alongside with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

reply

No! No! The film just representing Malaysia, that's all.

reply

It isn't really reperesenting msia...And don't give to much hope on it, the probable nomination list came out and PGL was NOT there.

reply

what do you mean with "It isn't really reperesenting msia..."?

unless you want to clarify it by saying that it's THE OFFICIAL FILM selected to represent Malaysia for the competition of Best Foreign Film...

reply

okay, okay, it's represeting m'sia...but if it indeed wants to represent m'sia, it should be nominated, not shortlisted...or...oh, whatever...

reply

"but if it indeed wants to represent m'sia, it should be nominated, not shortlisted..."

let's see...

with a total of 49 countries competing for a nomination in the Best Foreign Film race, it is very difficult, not to mention there are some high profile films e.g "House of Flying Daggers" and "The Sea Inside" as well.

We should consider ourselves lucky if we are to be nominated. At least we have some sense to submit this film rather than other trashy flicks found in our local market... With the submission of this film to be considered by the Academy voters, we can show to our own people we can do it... it will be better if we are nominated, but as for now, we should consider this as a big step towards a hopefully better local film industry.

the 49 countries with their selected films are:

Thanks for ur long list of submission

PGL will be our Malaysian pride whether it will or will not become a nominee for the Oscars....the reasons:
1. Never had once a Malaysian film get on any cinemas in America, n was given such a simple yet powerful name still

2. The storyline was so Malaysian...no elements of any country at all (well, perhaps Indonesia)

3. The whole story was conveyed in accordance to Asian devine rules (that's conservation and shyness), no Caucasian touch at all....that's perfect!

4. It costs 5M, n it better be really good

Bravo for the first successful malaysian film!

It would be so great if PGL gets a nomination at the Oscars. By the way, if PGL gets a nomination, this movie's strongest competitors would have to be The Sea Inside, A Very Long Engagement or perhaps Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ.

It is better to be the best among the best rather than the best among the worst.

reply

didn't you read the official submissions from countries that participated that i posted eligible for Best Foreign Film nominations?

(grr...)

THE REAL REASON WHY A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT AND THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR BEST FOREIGN FILM...

from imdb.com, 1 Dec 2004

"Top 2004 Foreign Language Films Ineligible for Oscar

Since Oscar submissions for foreign-language films may only be made by the country in which they are made -- and only one film per country -- several of the top foreign language movies of 2004 have already been eliminated. They include Maria Full of Grace, A Very Long Engagement, The Motorcycle Diaries, and Bad Education, the Los Angeles Times observed today (Thursday). Also eliminated: Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, in which Aramaic was the principal spoken language. "This system doesn't work," producer and academy member Samuel Goldwyn Jr. told the Times. "The academy's job is to pick the best foreign-language picture of the year. But what happens when two of the best pictures of the year are both made in France? Or suppose you had Italy's The Bicycle Thief and La Dolce Vita in the same year. It would be criminal if you could only pick one."

reply

Nope....I didn't read....sorry....

By the way, I really like Iran's Turtles Can Fly....

It is better to be the best among the best rather than the best among the worst.

reply

It costed 20 mil lah....
Ok, so I sould be proud that PGL got nominated....shortlisted...
I read somewhere that PGL got good reviews at the US.

reply

the nominations for the 77th academy award will be announced tomorrow... so let see.......

reply

I hope these movies are chosen for the Foreign Language Film :

1. Puteri Gunung Ledang (Malaysia)
2. The Sea Inside (Spain)
3. The Chorus (France)
4. The Great Water (Macedonia)
5. Whisky (Uruguay)

It is better to be the best among the best rather than the best among the worst.

reply

-Despite us didn't get the nomination, we should be proud that we can finally produce a film that is not only lauded in M;sia but also met the International standard. hopefully we can continue this trend...

reply

You all should be proud that PGL gets the recognitions it deserves eventhough the movie gets snubbed at the Academy.

It is better to be the best among the best rather than the best among the worst.

did i hear someone wanting to buy "the beautiful washing machine" dvd? how can you even want to watch it when it has such a (stupid) title? well...i did watch it last year, so i don't blame you...but i think it's the dumbest movie ever made...i mean, extremely dull and boring. half of the people watching with me left the cinema hall after 30 minutes into the movie. i managed to hold myself until another half an hour when i didn't think i could help wanting to sleep + puke + spit on the big screen. i walked out anyway and the next thing i knew, the movie got a bunch of awards at international festivals. Wtf??? Unless the judging panels were obsessed with (almost) mute movies, i think the world was really coming to an end. And i never watched any indie movies eversince. Just don't want to spend my money for pieces of crap.
