Who got hit by the champagne cork?

In the scene where Guy Noir (Kevin Kline) opens a bottle of champagne the cork flies off & he addresses someone off screen with "Sorry!" The scene suggests that the area Guy Noir & the Stage manager were in was deserted, so it couldn't have been another character in the film. Does anyone know if a member of the stage crew got hit or something?

I think in the trivia notes here for the film, the cork hit the director
who was off screen.

It hit the director, who audibly said ow, so the character would necessarily respond to hitting "patron going to bathroom" with an apology.
