I'd recommend reading the book before seeing this movie. I was extremely disappointed by the way the movie was portrayed. Aside from having some of the names & events changed, there was a lot missing. I would have preferred that this movie be made into a mini-series that encompassed the entire nature of the story. Specifically Ellie & Katie's relationship & how that came to develop throughout the story. By not reading the book 1st, the movie allows for one to be completely lost. I love Marishka Hargitay in L & O: SVU & she did a great job in this movie. I would have on the other hand found someone else to play the role of Katie other than Alison Pill. I believe too that she didn't do Jodi Picoult's work any justice. If I had to grade the movie it would be a D. I think even that's a little too kind...

Hackneyed plot with an Amish touch to make it appear unique.

The previews do not match the storyline -- and having the girl's attorney LIVE there was so dumb. Gee, why didn't the judge have them attached at the legs or handcuffed for the duration? Just as stupid as the other order from the court!

So why is the rerun om my television right now?

What's wrong with me?

If you spend your whole time looking for inaccuracies in movies and tv shows, then you're bound to be disappointed most of the time.

I hope that most of us are able to ignore these mistakes and just watch an enjoyable entertaining movie with an interesting plot. Nothing's perfect and expecting perfection, especially from a made-for-tv movie, will usually make you unable to enjoy anything on the tv ever again. Yes you can still complain, but saying a movie stinks just because it gets all the facts wrong is really...depressing.

There's a reason the movie has a 6.4 rating out of 10 (as it stands now). A lot of us don't care about these blunders - we can see past them.

Dude, that's a D. That's not the best mark.

I thought it was okay, and I liked Mariska Hargitay. But she completely blew it for me when she thought the girl had been raped. All of a sudden she was in full-out Olivia Benson mode. She stopped being Ellie for a full two minutes or so in favour of the character she embodies, and I couldn't put it back together after that. No lawyer would be that cop-like upon thinking that their client had been raped.

what is wrong with you. If the audience stops caring about getting facts wrong why should filmmakers. You are advocating accepting mediocrity. You sicken me!

The Amish are supposedly adverse to lying. Even when it's a necessary evil, they shrink from telling a lie. Yet, in this movie the mother and daughter lie up the wazoo.
