Express what you image the ending is after the last scene

I want to know what people think that happend after the end. Do you she tells the Grandmother was the murderer or not?

reply

katie's mother killed the baby and also cut the umbilical cord coz i dont see how katie could summon the strenth to go get the shears after having the child.

interesting tho the court can charge someone with negligance while being pregnant...then what about abortion...couldnt they apply the same thought process that they apply to abortion to some neglecting pre-natal care?

reply

i dont think that she would tell because in the end scene they were busy showing how happy katie and her mother were together. so i dont think that she was going to turn her in because the mother got katie back and she felt bad for the mother. i mean come on how would u feel if u lost 2 kids

Katie's mom killed the baby. Katie cut the umbilical cord - that's what she said she did at least. I don't think Katie would turn her in, since the whole point was to save the family and that would obviously ruin the family.

I think that Ellie keeps quiet about what she knows. Sarah killed her grandchild to keep the one child that she had left, so bringing the authorities down on her would only cause more misery. I think Ellie thought that the family and especially Katie had suffered enough.

I think the baby died from medical reasons that the doc said....but I think her mom helped birth the baby and cut the umbilical cord. The reason I think they made her mom look so guilty is because the she knew the truth...but never spoke up so she could save her family.

THe MOM DID NOT kill the baby. I really beleive the only thing the mom did was get rid of the baby ,hoping the whole situation would disappear. How would everyone in the community react if Katie was found with a dead baby in her arms? Not good. So to save her family, her husbandd anger, an the family reputation she choose to just clean and dump the baby somewhere. What she did was wrong, jsut acting like the baby didn't matter in the least, but i understand her want to kepp her family together. She did it out of lobe. The lawyer saw this and thats why she won't tell anyone about the mom.
Besides the mom is just to weak to handle that.

reply

I don't think she would tell anyone about it. I think she just wanted to get as far away from the case and the people as possible. And not having to deal with them anymore.

As for the girl being convicted for negligence during pregnancy - I think the jury found her guilty to be "nice" to her. She was talking so much about that she needed to confess and be found guilty so she could live on with her life and seek forgiveness. I think the jury realized that if they found her not guilty that would mess up her mind more, so they found her not guilty and the judge sentence was pretty soft. I don't know how to explain it o if you understand what i mean by what i just wrote.

I agree with Cahilla, the look on the lawyer's face when she left the farm was one of absolute terror. Like she was suddenly afraid of Katie and her mother. The look that sort of passed between her and Katie indicated to me that Katie knew what her mother had done but was willing to go to prison to protect her if necessary. When those bloody shears were unwrapped I felt a chill.

What I wonder is, did what happened mean that Katie was no longer "marriageable?" Did Samuel still want to marry her? He didn't look too pleased in the hall after the trial was over. No one else would want to marry her; she could well be doomed to remain on the farm forever. Sad.

I picture the old baby-killing bitch dying in a gruesome farming accident. That'd be a fitting end.

There are always more women than men in Amish communities. It's not that they prefer the Amish life to the "English" world. It's that the men have learned a skilled trade like carpentry and can more easily support themselves with only an eighth-grade education. An adult Amish woman knows only housework and isn't going to find a job in the English world that pays more than minimum wage.

I don't really understand the end, BUT I do know this...
1) Sarah didn't kill the baby. Amish people don't kill, and if she did kill the baby, someone would have seen the baby's wounds and what not. They DID bury the child.
2) I think she just cut the imbilical cord... I don't know why the shears were covered with blood like they were though..

My first thought is that Sarah killed the baby.
But the reason 1) makes sense.

Sam:"To him[Leo]?! To be a whore to a gutter rat?!"
Kate:"I'd rather be his whore than your wife."
