other under appreciated movies?

after viewing the very low rating for this movie on imdb, i was wondering what other movies out there are underrated om imdb.

this movie was top ten on both ebert and roepers top ten list, critics love it, yet checks in at 6.9 on this site. i've seen very few movies as human and interesting as this and would like some tips on other hidden gems that i would like if i liked this.

by the way, did anyone else notice that amazingly long takes throughout the film. it was a long time since i saw the film, but the story with the african-american lady visting home after being away for so long was shot as one single take. that blew me away. i think even some of the other ones may have been similar in length, but i can't remember for sure. i can't imagine the difficulty in shooting something like that.

If you haven't already done so, look up Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her and Ten Tiny Love Stories, two other Rodrigo Garcia films. The latter consists of monologues shot in a single take using a stationary camera, and the cast is entirely female.

Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her departs from the formula in that Garcia doesn't use single takes, but the stories are interrelated in some way, as in Nine Lives, and of course the lives of women are again showcased.

First rule of movie-going: never confuse the actor with his role.
