You have to be a real woman to get it

I have read the other comments and can only say that anyone who does not "get" this move is either NOT a woman or does not understand what it is to be a woman. I found this movie FASINATING Great performances by all NO you do not get a whole story from start to finish but that is the BEAUTY of it You find out SO much about who each woman is in these few minutes that it is overwelming ,in a good way.Their fears, wants,& needs became quickly apparant as I watched them. There is a understanding of women here that I have only seen in few other films , most of them being Directed by Rodrigo Garcia. My favorites were the ones with Glenn Close at the end with the surprise "twist" you didn't see coming .Its heartbreaking & so is the story involving Robin Wright Penn I could barely breath watching her and the need she had for Damian .Oscar should have came up with a award for all these women .SO love it or Hate it it is a powerful film that ALL woman should watch and understand at least once For those that don't understand ......grow a little and you will.Afterall, all of those women live inside of us too.

Um...I'm a fourteen-year-old guy and I loved this movie. So it's not just for the ladies.

I haven't seen this movie, but based on my loathing of his other film, Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her, I suspect rainesbobo's comment is quite wide of the mark. And I'm a middle-aged woman with high levels of both self-awareness and empathy.

And I'm a 40 year old gay male who LOVES both movies. And no, being gay doesn't mean that I automatically understand women better, 'cause sometimes I'm sure they're from some parallel universe. (Men too, not being a hater.)

Even though I loved "Things you can tell just by looking at her", I liked this one. But not the ending cause it made me cry.

So let me get this straight: In your opinion, it's not enough that I'm a woman, I have to be *real* as well? How do you define that?

Sexist!

Yeah, I have to agree w/ a few other responses to your post that it's pretty sexist in it's assumption. I too am a man and really enjoyed this film. I think a lot of the situations could have been switched in terms of the gender represented and still been as believable. For example, do you think that there has never been a man confronting the trauma of say, testicular cancer and dealt with it by projecting his fear and anger on a loving wife or partner? And the segment with Glenn Close and Dakota Fanning would have been no less touching had it been a father and son. I think what makes the film so appealing is that the situations presented are indicative of the HUMAN condition, not necessarily just the female condition.

No you don't...the director isn't!
