How do you let an assassin walk out of prison just 12 years after shooting someone in the head, neck, and chest at close range?

Yes, it was a trivial sentence for committing a violent murder. But, "advanced" countries appear to want a nuanced approach to violence which is approved and accepted by some influential people.
