I think the biggest Error was.....

All movies that have Marines in them get me going b/c they normally can't get the uniforms right. When John is told he's getting discharged he's wearing an Army issue, cover(hat). It sounds stupid but it's rather annoying since im a Marine myself and they tried to pull this movie off as a tribute to marines at the premiere.

Not to mention his hair is long as all hell...

Stereotypical trash movie that I never bothered to watch. I hate propaganda movies.

the biggest error was casting john cena in the movie

reply

They do that in a lot of movies, small errors in the uniforms, ribbons, collar brass etc.
I've heard that it's done on purpose for some reason, just can't remember what it is.

It is a commonly held fallacy that uniforms must be wrong somehow when worn by actors. Two U.S. laws and a subsequent Supreme Court decision made this established law in 1970.

• 18 U.S.C. §702 makes it illegal for anyone to wear a U.S. uniform (in part or in whole) without proper authorization from the government.
• 10 U.S.C. §772 (f) grants an exception to actors "if the portrayal does not tend to discredit that armed force"
Schacht v. United States (1970) found the quoted clause to be unconstitutional on first amendment grounds.

In theory the government could repeal 10 U.S.C. §772 (f) and then no actor could wear even a partly correct uniform. This should not violate the first amendment since it would be a blanket ban on impersonation a soldier. But as long as the government allows some actors to wear a uniform, it has to allow all of them.

So for the last 41 years any uniform mistakes are either sloppiness on the part of the production or deliberate mistakes.

Maybe "the marine" preferred the more comfortable feel of the army issue hat?

Maybe his own marine hat was damaged in the war and he had to get another and the local marine quartermaster was out of marine style hats?

You have to look beyond strict interpretations of how YOU feel a marine should dress.
Marines probably wear air force issue boots for increased comfort and equipment designed for SEALs for better effectiveness.

Hell, he probably bought that hat at the PX because it looked "cooler" than his issue hat!

i am a 13yr army vet. and i can guarantee no marine would be caught dead in an army cover and vice versa. my brother was a marine. and his QM would not have army issue items. the hair is the one thing that is permissable in the OP's community since you have to blend into the environment.

nstanisci is absolutely correct, I served 5 years in the Corps and can attest to this info. Military uniform regulations are heavily enforced and strictly adhered to regardless of personal circumstance. If you don't wear the uniform in its entirety (and almost more importantly, correctly), you simply don't wear it.

Personally, I see it as a sign of disrespect if you don't wear your uniform correctly. Disrespect to yourself, your country and the branch of service of which you serve.

I didn't see that part...as for it was on tv and wasnt really watching it then.

Sad that a error like that goes over looked in movies yea its a movie but still.

Anyway Thanks for you service everyone that is/was in any branch of Military!

@rglasby
wtf? no dude, no. seriously, that sounds retarded. Marines dont wear army hats, air force boots and navy seal equipment, no matter how "comfortable" they are. (btw, Marine Corps authorized combat boots arnt too bad)
And its not his intepretation of how HE thinks a Marine should dress... that IS how a Marine should dress. in proper uniform. *beep*, dude, just.... no.

......gawd, I just cant leave this alone. HIS HAT GOT DESTROYED IN THE WAR??? are you *beep* retarded? the quarter master was out of Marine covers? So in your stupid ass world, a Marine can just go buy any *beep* he wants because he likes it more and its comfortable, like say a *beep* fur coat and maybe a nice pair of comfortable pants?? ? yea that would be really *beep* awesome, BUT HEY at least it would feel good! *beep* idiot, go drown yourself.
