This is a really good movie, but I must have missed some sort of key plot development.
At the end, when they hand the bag of money over, and the guy leaves with it, they all of a sudden seem to realize something and gasp/smile. What's going on there? What happened that I missed?

They realized that the teacher tricked them.
I do not know the actuall numbers so I will make them up
Teacher really owed $10,000 but told the kids that they need to give the bad guy $25,000 to get clear.
The kids say "We were only able to get $20,000". The bad guy sees that the teacher lied to the kids telling them that they owed more because he was going to pocket the extra $15,000 for himself. But figured he would cease the oppurtunity and take the extra cash.
Hope that explains it.
