Overrated

I found the book and the film overrated. I couldn't help but feel the only reason both the book and film are so widely praised is because they deal with subjects and say everything we WANT to hear about Afghans/Muslims. I'm not denying the harsh realities faced by Afghans in the past and present but it seems we in the west will heap praise on anything that confirms our prejudice and condemnation of the other.

agree with the OP,didn't see the movie but the book wasn't that good.

I did not read the book but agree that the film was overrated. However, the beginning of the film was beautiful and Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada, who playes Young Hassan, was an amazing actor for one who had not acted before. Just amazing.

Actually, I watched the movie to see the story of the torn friendship. It was recommended to me. I didn't watch for my desire to feel 'prejudice and condemnation of the other'.

I didn't even know what country the story was about, till I watched it. I knew hardly anything of it.

Completely agree.

The film is overrated, but not the book. The book deserves all the accolades that it has received.

Yeah, I don't think the book is overrated. It's either adequately-rated or underrated. Ugh lol, to be honest, I hate the over/underrated talk. It just skews one's objective, honest opinion and could lead one to missing out on a good experience.

Lol, I see the Bond-fans are spamming yet another board for a Marc Forster film.

We all know that neither of you have seen the movie or read the book so stop with all this crap.

You have seen ONE of Marcs films, QoS, and you didn't like it. What exactly was wrong with the directing in that movie? He didn't write the script, nor did he edit it or produce it.

I think Forster is a genious, very creative, inventive and diverse. I also think his movies are way too thought-provoking, intellectual and deep for you pathetic Bond-fans to ever understand. Bond are for 8 year olds.

Monster's Ball, The Kite Runner and especially Finding Neverland and Stranger Than Fiction are four of the best movies of the last decade. That's really impressive for a director who's only made 9 movies so far.

I'm not sure about World War Z though cause it's written by that no talent Lindelof.

forster is obviously specialized in crappy propaganda movies.

To me it is underrated. It was excellent. Don't forget that there is a part of the world like this we must be ashamed of.
