Why a Vietnamese actress?

i am disappointed that they chose to have a vietnamese actress and character in this movie. the movie takes place in cambodia. it puts spotlight on what is happening in cambodia... why veer off track and use a vietnamese character as the female lead?

reply

It is because Holly's character is Vietnamese. The thing about human trafficking around SE Asia is they are "trafficked" beyond borders from country to country. Vietnam is an origin country for trafficking, and Camboida is a destination country. So i believe this film is fairly accurate in terms of the actresse's nationality and the character's, as well as the setting.

There are a helluva lot of Vietnamese prostitutes in Cambodia.

reply

Well if you knew more about the trafficking, you would know that most of the time they are Vietnamese girls that are kidnapped and brought to Cambodia. In Holly's case, there are lots of girls who are just like her who are brought to a place where they don't know the language at all.

Hey, why not use a young Jewish girl from Manhattan!
