If Ed Wood did 3D Animation

Seriously, if you want to enjoy this movie, and I really mean this, watch this at like 3 in the morning when you're half tired but just CANNOT get to sleep. It really enhances the bizarreness of it all, the Pythonesque presence of Spanish text mixed with the fact it's hard to tell it's a dub, the fact that the Spanish don't need to make films so you wonder what's up anyway, the near-David Lynchian quality of insanity. Still, it's a hole lot better than that vomitous Shrek, and they made three of those piss-ugly things.

It was night impossible for me to tell just what exactly was this movie's technique. It dawned upon me after a while that this movie is an expert at making inaction seem like action. Things almost happen until a character makes a complete 180 turn to detour everything to a halt. This sort of leads the movie to being told in almost episodic fashion. Although the movie almost touches on interesting aspects, details are nigh on impossible to follow, especially when you try to get to know who any of the characters are. The best scene to explain the bizarre behavior of the characters is when Sancho and QuiXote are being smacked across the face repeatedly without questioning why.

There are so many bizarre moments that will stand out in your memory as you watch this movie. It's as though this movie just comes AT your face. Primarily there's the scene with the horse enjoying himself just WAY too much at relieving himself, the manic ditzy girl grabbing her own boobs, the Ed Wood horse, the seemingly inappropriate insertion of dated pop songs, and still more.

The plot made as much sense as an episode of Twin Peaks, and the dialogue was like talking to a character from an Ed Wood film. But unfortunately you need to be able to understand these things before you'll get this movie. It's a good thing this was dubbed and not subbed, because otherwise you could just chalk everything up to mistranslation, and listening to Spanish would just make things even more confusing.

Just tell yourself one thing as you watch this: This movie's from Barcelona.

Seriously you are praising way too much this piece of crap. Not even in a Ed Wood-esque kind of way this is a decent movie. Meaning: it's not even "so bad that it's good", as some of the most infamous movies directed by Ed Wood.
No this is not the case. Donkey Xote is just a crappy film. A cheap attempt to make a Hollywood-like 3D movie that ended being a flop in the box-office plus it has received some of the worst reviews I've read for any animated film.
When I approached this animated movie made in Spain, I wasn't expecting to see the same level of quality of animation as in Pixar or Dreamworks flicks. But I was expecting to see at least an original, intelligent and well-articulated movie. Not the mess that Donkey Xote is.

As I said before is not even a Bad-good flick. It's only a mediocre film. Period.

BTW I don't get why you keep mentioning Monty Python and David Lynch as references for this flick. First of all The Python's WERE FUNNY, even in their most bizarre works (like The Meaning of Life), while Donkey X is anything but funny.
Secondly: If you really wanna see animated films with a "lynchian" feeling; then I recommend you to watch the animated movies directed by Satoshi Kon. They are anime not 3D, though.

In short: Donkey Xote is the worst animated film in 3D I've ever seen. I have seen much better animated films produced in countries with a much smaller movie industry than Spain. Countries like Cuba or Peru. Those films might not have cutting-edge technology (BTW neither Donkey X) but they at least tells efficiently a GOOD story. Unlike Donkey Xote.

Poor Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. I'm glad that he couldn't see his masterwork raped in such a vulgar way.

I agree with the above. Saw this with my daughters today and I regretted it almost immediately. I strongly suspected going in it wouldn't be good, but it was worse than I anticipated.

Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and stay far away from this wretched pile of donkey dung. That it currently has a rating of 5 on this site is shocking to me. It is well below average/mediocre.

I saw this movie 2 months ago. In my opinion it is not an animated film for children, but it is the same for a few number of recent animated films, sometimes ironic, sometimes subtle comedy. I found some opening bars brilliant. At the same time I was hoping for a more stunning end, however it is pretty obvious. Although I do not work in the field, I really liked the animation and graphics; I find the character of Don Quixote - as it has been thought - particularly elegant. I've never been to Spain. Should I?
