metalcore invasion???

What do you guys think about this?

Im a regular guy, but for quite a while ive been following a major hardcore scene in ottawa (ontario canada) and smaller local hardcore scenes.

hardcore bands with the oldschool sound are pretty rare these days. metalcore bands grows everywhere like *beep* mushrooms. I dont mind much since i love metal/hardcore/metalcore/whatever but this upcomming death of hardcore pisses a couple of people off here.

is hardcore dying in your areas???

anyways, ill use this topic to say hardcore is the coolest *beep* ever, hurray for windmills and 2-step!

I do believe the oldschool sound is dying out. While it's difficult to really judge the scene in my area since i"m not at the local hardcore shows that much like I used to, but the bands I do see seem to be going for the Hatebreed-Terror kind of sound. I see it slowly fading away untill it's almost completely gone. and you're right, metalcore bands have been popping up like there's no tomorrow. I like some metalcore, but there are way too many metalcore bands out there and a lot of times you'd be hardpressed to tell one from another cause they sound so much alike. I think also the reason for the old school sound dying out is that people just wanna hear slow and choppy breakdowns so they can swing and kick and do their thing. There's nothing wrong with that, but it has cheapened the music because the breakdowns are way overdone. You can still have an old school sound and still have really great parts for people to dance too, but I think the younger generation isn't exposed as much to the old sound

reply

i agree with you

there is WAY too many breakdowns in songs these days.

it sucks because it just takes away the agression and the intensity of the breakdown. When you have a good breakdown once in a while, its way more intense then getting them 2-3 times per song.

There are still a few normal Hardcore bands around..Bane and Have Heart immediately come to mind, and then there's Comeback Kid, and I'm sure there are others.

Proper hardcore has been dead round my area for ages, now we just have tons of deathcore bands who are all BMTH wannabes.

Mosh 'N Roll

lol yeah i know.

by the way ive seen bury your dead with bmth not long ago!

reply

Theres plenty of bands with the old school sound. There's just as much hardcore with an old school sound as there is with the pseudo-metalcore/metalcore sound in the scene where i live, if not more.

thats stuff has been dead. and hopefuly metalcore will die soon too. i mean metalcore has been dead... at least since 02' the lame kids just haven't gotten the memo yet. and now thats its mainstream...yikes. i'm not a fan of that tough guy 5h1t. when i think hardcore, i think tragedy, his hero is gone, severed head of state, holy mountain, rambo, old skitsystem & world burns to death. but yeah i like my stuff a lil crusty. but again soia will always be cool.

You guys gotta remember this is hardcore so the guy from milwaukee will not know the same hardcore bands as the guy from pittsburgh, pa or where ever everybody is from

reply

seems in australia, for every good hardcore band that breaks up 500 "deathcore" BMTH clones come out.

check out bands like pro team, stronghold, miles away, break even, jungle fever, 50 lions. some of em are arond still, some arnt but they keep it real. we still have A LOT of metalcore but.

we hunt, we kill, we bury humans!

reply

metalcore is *beep* awful

reply

i love metal/hardcore

Then you should listen to Swedish kängpunk like Avskum, Skitsystem, Wolfbrigade, etc. instead of that metalcore crap. Skitsystem's Stigmata is the most brutal punk album ever recorded.
