absolute drivel

why this scare mongering rubbish couldn't have been left to the yanks to make is beyond me

hopefully the new structure being introduced at the BBC will stop them wasting licence fee money on this sort of rubbish

and what's with "Jock Galvin"? this kind of stereotype I expect in an American film, but come on BBC.

I thought it was alright for a TV two parter. I believe that we do live in fear, fear created by media. But this does not include the fear of natural disasters, they just happen dude I am afraid - unlike the terror-mongers and war-mongers that rule this world.

I think the Western world walks around in a bubble of ignorance, ignorance of the suffering of humankind every single day. I think it was a good idea to show that we are not completely detached from the prospect of this kind of disaster.

Jock was Scottish, spoke Scottish, had a Scottish name. How was he stereo-typed, did I miss something. Like a flash of kilt.

"Watch the leather maaan!"

right, and there's bugger all we can do about it, so why worry. also, it's called the BBC. Why? BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation. do we not have enough of our own problems to deal with without concerning ourselves about an event in America which is unlikely to occur in my lifetime, or in the lifetime of my great great great x 1000 grandchilds lifetime?

I think you'll find we're not that detached from it. unlike American TV news, our news educates and informs, and brings home disaster after disaster, including those in America - fire, hurricanes, floods etc.

and I'm Scottish, and everyone I know thought that character was a joke.

A valid point I suppose. But..

If this was to happen, as the movie rightly pointed out, every single human being would be affected in one way or another. Also, of course it isn't going to happen in our life time. But did that stop us from enjoying Armageddon? or Deep Impact?. It's just entertainment, based on a likely event. We won't be around when it happens, but it was interesting to see what would happen, and how it would affect our descendants.. i.e your great great great x 1000 grandchildren.

For a TV movie, I thought it had everything going for it. It had an intense story line, with plenty of dramatic turns n twists to keep you on the edge of your seat - the acting was pretty good.. and several of the major News channels around the globe all stepped up to help make this. This could have been a whole lot worse.. it could have been "Volcano" - Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche.. now THAT was absolute drivel..

That's the voice of fear talking. You don't know with certainty that Yellowstone
won't erupt, so don't act like you're in denial. But react as you need to, I say.

And no, we don't have "enough" of our own problems. The Powers That Be will make
more, before nature can. What you think are problems now, *pale* in comparison...

"and I'm Scottish, and everyone I know thought that character was a joke."

You don't believe what's purported by the docu-drama... so I don't believe you. :-)

BBC made this disaster movie not because Yellostone's Supervolcano is not just America's disaster but it is the world's disaster. In the world'a past history 74,000 years ago a supervolcano in LAKE TOBA, SUMATRA, INDONESIA erupted and nearly wiped out the human race. This eruption ejected 3 times the volcanic ash than Yellowstone's largest eruption (Huckleberry Ridge, 1.8 million years ago). That comes to several thousand times more material than erupted from Mount St. Helens in 1980.

no, I'd much rather see programmes like tonights Panorama, where issues important to the UK are investigated in an intelligent way, not blown out of proportion in something that looks like a US made for TV movie.

Intelligent comeback by the way
