Well we enjoyed it....I think it's quite a good film

I was curious about this film so I bought the DVD off ebay. It's a 2 disc Dutch copy but is in English. We watched it over the weekend and to be honest we really enjoyed it. Even our children enjoyed it.

The boy with the camera was annoying but then it was only a film.
Sylvia Syms and Rutger Hauer were both excellent as they are in everything.
The original version is still the best but this one we felt was better than the recent cinema remake.

I know a lot of you have not liked it but we thought it very good.
All in all a very good film. Obviously only our opinion but each to their own.

I have to agree with you. I didn't find it nearly as bad as everyone here is making it out to be...although I really could have done without Steve Guttenburg in it. *shudders at his "acting" *

On the version you bought, were there any extras at all?

Thanks for agreeing with us
I agree with you about Steve Guttenberg too. That child with the camcorder was a pain also. I am sure the last thing anybody would be doing is faffing round shooting a home video when your in that situation.

As far as the DVD goes it has no extras unfortunately. The box cover is in Dutch but the film can be watched in English and you can easily turn the subtitles off. It is a 2 disc DVD and we got it off ebay. The whole thing was about £8.00 and that includes postage.
Just looked on ebay for you now and there is one available for £4.99 plus £3.00 for p & p. It's brand new.

take care

I was diasappointed a bit that it wasn't as good as the original but I liked the cast and the story was well told so what's not to love. It's like King Kong pics, some are better than others but its' a classic modern fable well worth hearing again.

i finally got to see the tv movie on the sci fi channel a little while ago...finally found the time to actually watch it this past weekend...you know what it wasn't half bad....i still prefer the gene hackman film...but it was better then a tv movie starring Steve Guttenburg and Rutger Hauer had any right to be..and Peter Weller was in it too...he's actually non-ironically quite a good actor...i've seen him on stage once or twice...he's good...was a little dissapointed his role was so brief but i guess you had to kind of expect that.

anyways...the film wasn't really all that different then other disaster epics of the 70's such as the towering inferno and earthquake you know if you think about it...not really sure what made posiedon so darn special and magical but it was pretty good enough.

I'm glad I found this post. For a while, I thought I was the only person who likded this TV movie of TPA. Granted it isn't in the same league as the original, but come on... It had action, adventure, drama, chezzy sub-plots and some really bad acting to go along with some really nice performances.

It was also nice that this version had some characters from Paul Gallico's book that wasn't in the original movie. The one constant in all of the Poseidon movies is that the precocious or bratty kid always seems to survive. At least Mr. Gallico had to courage to see to it that the kid was silenced with an untimely end. Oh well, just goes to prove a cardinal rule of movie making... the dog and kid always lives! Even the bratty ones.

One last thing that was really neat... It was cool that one of the most scary movies I've ever seen, 'The Hitcher' reunited two of the three main stars, Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell. I wish they could have found a place for Jennifer Jason-Leigh like maybe as Mrs. Clarke.

All-in-all, not as good as the original Poseidon Adventure but, in my opinion, slightly better than the blockbuster remake Poseidon.

I agree with the original comment, it wasn't all that bad of a movie. I just bought a dvd of it for $1.50 thinking it was the newest Poseidon movie. It was divided into two parts, so I watched each part over two days. Definitely not as good as the original, kind of boring, but not bad. Interesting how the bad guys were Moslem terrorists, but probably close to what you would expect.

I agree. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Good Lord, some of the posters on here are acting like spoiled brats who have just had their candy taken away. My only complaint was that it should have had another title. It was a decent movie, but it wasn't exactly a remake of Irwin Allen's Poseidon Adventure. Some of the names of the characters were the same like Mike Rogo and Belle and of course the SS Poseidon, but it had a different storyline therefore I think it should have been given another name.
