Useful + Enjoyable, but re-runs of older episodes should be banned!

As a part-time property developer myself, I love watching property shows like this. It is very easy for people to criticise them, and point out their obvious shortcomings. The fact that almost everyone appearing on the show comes away with a profit is to some degree a reflection of the property price boom we have been enjoying over the past few years. Financial aspects asides however, and what you have here is a great little insight into how professional and amateur developers alike, go about their business. There are some very useful lessons to be observed and learned here if you pay attention to their individual tips and tricks of the trade. Just try not to become blinkered by the property valuations they have at the end.

It will be very interesting to see if shows like this continue to be made as our housing prices currently slide into decline. I expect they will slowly disappear from our screens, especially if we end up in another recession. One thing for sure though, and that is TV channels should be banned from re-running older episodes where market prices were significantly different to those of today. It will only serve to feed the minds of people lacking the necessary common sense, to think that there is still a profit to be made from giving a derelict building a quick lick of paint!...

I have noticed that BBC have started saying 'filmed in 2006' etc when showing this and other property shows.

My parents are kicking themselves because the house next door from us was up for sale about 2 years ago and if we had bought it we would of made over £100,000.

I hope these shows dont disappear I really do love them lol.

I may seem dum on here but I am an A student. So go suck on it.

You're right, I also noticed that they have started putting that text briefly on the bottom of the screen just before the bidding starts. The trouble is, blink and you've missed it.

That hideous "We asked a couple of local estate agents..." music drives me insane. To see it several times in an episode is seriously irritating. It simply doesn't match up - jazzy horn music for those humourless dorks in cheap business suits, three times per show!

And I know we're getting older eps here, but what's with those hideous long scarves that Lucy Alexander wears tied loosely around her neck? Does she have a pot belly, or was she pregnant at the time, perhaps?

The three months HUTH gives buyers before a return visit, is very often insufficient - especially when planning permission is an issue. It's absurd when, at the end of the three months, nothing's been done - yet they still get the local estate agents in for a potential valuation. Really stupid. They could've done that before the auction!

Programmes which show a complete hovel, and return weeks later to - voila! - a beautifully finished property - help to mislead the public into believing property developing is much easier than it actually is.

Still, I don't mind this show, in spite of the repetitive estate agent bit - but I much prefer Beens and "Property Ladder" because it shows more of the actual work involved in property developing.
