Alright, never mind

I change my last post. Foster's hasn't jumped the shark. Last night's episode was really good. Sorry, pitbullady

Actually, out of the entire existance of this show, last night's episode, "Ticket To Rod", was my least favorite of all time. Of course, it's pretty much inevitable that when a show has been on for five seasons, not every single episode is going to be a shining and wonderful example, or appeal to everyone. This one, to me, was just not funny at all, and if it weren't for Jackie Khones, would have held no appeal whatsoever for me. Several things bothered me a lot about it, one being the pointlessness of several things, like Eduardo showing up wanting a ticket. It made me think that there was going to be a lot of characters competing for a ticket, but that wasn't the case at all. Madame Foster was once more portrayed as selfish and deceitful, like she was in "Foster's Goes To Europe". I'd hoped that was just a fluke, and wouldn't happen again, but it makes me wonder how such an irresponsible and thieving person could have the warmth and love to open her own home to a bunch of unwanted Imaginary Friends. As bad as I hate to say it, Bloo DID deserve that ticket, since HE was clearly a big fan of that Rod Tango guy, lousy actor or not, and he DID stay up all night listening to that awful station that sounds like something my father listens to; that alone should have earned him a ticket! The ending didn't make any sense to me, either, with Bloo thrilled to be thrown out of the movie premier after Jackie ratted him out, singing on the marquee and even as the cops took him away.

What REALLY bothers me, though, is that they're really playing up on that crush that Mac had on Frankie in "Frankie My Dear". It was cute then, because she was totally oblivious to it, and because Bloo, Chris(the pizza guy)and even Prince Charming all wanted a piece of the action, and Frankie didn't have a clue because she was all moony-eyed over Dylan Lee. This time, though, she seems to really be playing into it, even though I'm sure from her POV, it's all perfectly innocent and she has no idea just what effect that has on this eight-year-old child. Still, a grown woman asking a little kid out on a date is just wrong; it would have been different if she'd just asked him to go see the movie so they could make fun of Rod Tango, but the whole "date" thing carries more implications. Like it or not, in our culture, when two people go out on a date that implies that they are either already in an intimate relationship, or are getting to know each better in preparation for a possibly-intimate(and by "intimate", I mean "sexual")relationship. You don't say you're on a date when you go somewhere with a friend. I know a lot of people, mostly adolescent little boys, support the notion of a Mac/Frankie romance, probably because they relate to Mac and have the hots for Frankie and just won't admit it, but there's nothing cool or sweet about pedophilia. I don't think that the show's producers and writers intended for things to look that way, but it's gonna be perceived that way by many viewers.

I'm also beginning to miss that chemistry, that group dynamic, between the main characters-Wilt, Coco, Eduardo, Mac, and Bloo. It seems that even though some of the later episodes have been really funny, they're getting more and more centered just on Mac and Bloo, and especially Bloo. The others, and Wilt and Coco in partilar, are being increasingly pushed into the background, if they appear at all. I really don't want to see "Foster's Home For Imaginary FriendS"(with an "S" on the end, as in PLURAL) become the "Mac and Bloo Show", or just "The Bloo Show". IF that happens, I'm afraid that YOU might actually be right, and the show will have indeed "jumped the shark".

wow.

ps

do you have your 3d glasses for the episode this friday?

reply

Actually, I have been totally unable to find any 3-D glasses, anywhere, darn it! I've even tried begging them off my students, but they either have no idea what "3-D glasses" are, or they are already onto the fact that a 3-D Foster's is airing this Friday, and nothing is going to make them give up their glasses! I'm still gonna check with some of the movie rental/sales places, hoping that they have some that they sell along with 3-D movies.

You can buy the Spy Kids 3-D movie or get them off Amazon. Or, a little more extreme option is on the Cartoon Network site they show you how to make them and give you some printable glasses. You just need to by some kind of thing for the 3D part.
