BIG SPOILERS (You've been warned)...
I'm sure many of your questions were answered by last night's episode, but here goes anyway...
The guy (Danny) whose wife (Trish) was cheating on him left. Just up and disappeared. He called in during the third episode to say he was okay and that he missed everyone but had blocked out the tracer on the call.
The end of the first episode implied that he did listen to the tapes but we don't know how long he listened. Never confronted the guy (Jeff) at all.
The traitor is Nora (Garcelle Beauvais). When confronted by Jeff (Eric Mabius) about being a traitor, she shot him which is where episode 1 left off. We find out in episode 2 that she just shot him through the flap of his ear as a warning. He turned over his research to her and she kept it. She now has him where she wants him.
Champagne? I'm not sure I remember the champagne bit.
As for the action in the episode, the mistress of Harlan's old college roommate, Brad (played by Brian McNamara), is kidnapped and held for $1M ransom. Brad doesn't understand why it's happening as he doesn't have $1M. He's a doctor who works in a free clinic and his wife makes minimal money. After some investigating, it turns out that Brad is lying. He's been making money on the side giving Oxycontin to some of his patients to sell illegally. One of his sellers is the kidnapper. Harlan and Chris decide to help the kidnapper get what he deserves from Brad as Harlan now realizes he cannot trust his old friend and is bitter because Brad's cheating on his wife who is Harlan's old college friend that he set up with him. He arranges and performs the drop off and they find the girl who is given the truth about Brad. She leaves him not realizing he was married. And they send the kidnapper to the Cooke Islands (no extradiction treaty with the US). However, we find out at the end that the fake passport they give the guy contains the information of someone on the FBI's Terror Watch List and he's busted at the airport.
