Mikes Wife

I feel Mike really changed by the end. I wonder did she except his change when he returned or continued with out him. any thoughts out there. When the waitress says she was going to stay with her husband I thought his wife would do the same with him.

..."I wonder did she except his change when he returned"...

Well remember she has well and truly left and returned north, so although we don't see it, we assume Norton is going to return to find her gone and I suppose he will have to decide whether he's going to follow.

Somehow I don't think it's going to happen.

It's his wife. Of course he's going to find her and try to fix things. I'm sure he knows who she'd go stay with so it wouldn't be difficult. There's not many people that would just say my wife's gone, oh well.

Plus moving there didn't work out too well for him either so I wouldn't be surprised if he'd want to go back to Cincinnati anyway

That's a matter of opinion.

My impression was that she'd had enough of Texas and him. I also think his enforced trip to Mexico had irrevocably changed him. I think it's highly speculative on both counts.

reply

Don't think after this he would be interested in border patrol anymore but the wife is the problem yes, remember she thinks Mike killed the Mexican guy out of revenge for having an affair with her. "He's beyond redemption.."

God I felt sorry for her. married to a total jerk, zero romance, all she wanted was to go to a friggin mall and he wouldn't even go in with her, made her shop alone. being stuck out in bo friggin nowhere in a trailer home and her big fun is to watch tv all day while he's at work. what an existence. that and smoke ciggs a lot and hang out at the local cafe to watch the rednecks.

don't get me wrong I'm sure there are some great places in texas to live in but still....

but I thought it kind of weird that they were watching cartoons and she was giggling like a kid. Ok, hun, I'm off to work at the boarder patrol to beat up some poor mexicans trying to cross the border, including punching women in the face, while you stay home here and watch cartoons all day, you'll be fine, if you lucky, I'll bring you a bud light and a bucket of KFC when I get home but don't expect to talk to me but I do expect you to bend over the kitchen sink when I feel like it for 30 seconds of romantic sex. what a guy

I pretty much agree wih you.. but, heck, I don't see her as much better.
I can see her a couple of years back, the 'popuar girl'.. for which read vain, vapid airhead lording it over the school because she was the pretty one and being mean to lesser mortals.. She got to marry the hunk and expected to remain the center of attention because of that..
Instead, suddenly, she's nothing special any more...
Now only interested in crappy day time soaps and 'Shopping' I doubt she had much conversation in her even if "total jerk, zero romance" had anything to say to her.
Sorry, athough I agree he is the bigger jerk by a fair way, they rather deserve each other.
Except that ... maybe.. and the ending is left open.. he has reached some sort of redemption...

few visible scars

yah you probably read her right, but she did leave him when she got fed up enough didn't she? or am I remembering it right? she had the brains to get out of there. tommy lee jones, he's just great, if he weren't in this movie, no way would I have ever rented it. he plays those tough guy parts so well.

I think at least one reason she left is that she doesn't even know where Mark is, or if he's still alive.

Others have also stated that perhaps she thought Mark killed Melquiades in revenge for her sleeping with Mel.

Either way, I think she just figured, "I better go back home and start over while I still can".
