Made for TV movie?

Watched the Emmys last night and noticed that Yesterday was nominated for Best Made for TV movie. Is this the same film that was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars a few years back?
If so, i thought the Oscars didn't allow made for TV movies to be eligible for their awards. Anyone know more about this - please clarify. Thanks.

It wasn't Made for TV.

It must've been released in a handful of theaters in LA thus making it eligible for Best Foreign Language Film (if also submitted)

Then the film was bought by HBO, they aired it, and it was nodded for an Emmy.

I also wondered that. So thank you! What you said makes the most sense.

foreign films don't need to be to be eligible. Therefore, since it's first showing in the US was on television (HBO), it got into the Emmy race on a rare loophole.

Congratulations to John Goodman on his recent Emmy win
