Rating

Does anyone know why this got an 'R' rating on the US release? There's no profanity, no nudity and no explicit violence. Is it because SEX is discussed? I know Americans can be real prudes sometimes, but that's a bit extreme.

Rated R for pervasive strong violence.

I wondered where this "pervasive strong violence" was in the film, and I saw it no where. There was one scene of "violence" and it was off-screen. But the high rating was probably for its subject matter.

It seems ironic to me that a serious film with no gratuitous sex, violence or profanity, that has an important message about the spread of a lethal illness and which deals with its subject in an informative, responsible and compassionate manner...

...gets the same rating from the censors as Hostel II.

I didn't realize it had that rating...that is absolutely disgusting. I can't stand the people who do the rating, they should be disposed of.

What difference does the rating make? Is it going to keep you from watching the movie? It probably got an R due to the graphic scenes of husband's prolonged death from AIDS. While I certainly would agree that an R was probably extreme, some might not consider this appropropriate subject matter from younger viewers.
