Read The Wah-Wah Diaries

Richard E Grant released the diary of making the film, it's excellent. The pains he went through with the producer MC are legendary! Amazed the film was made at all!

"Why? I'll tell you why. Because a fruit cart, A STINKING FRUIT CART, killed my pa!"

The stories he told about the actors were wonderful. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful friend in Europe who sent me a copy as I live in the US and I don't think it is available here yet. I was also fortunate to see the movie at a film festival and wanted to see it again but could not find anywhere it was showing close to where I live. However, after reading the book I especially look forward to seeing the movie again. Here's hoping it won't be much longer before the DVD is released.

I have just finished it. The problems he had to put up with from MC beggar belief! I haven't seen the film but have put it to the top of my 'to rent' list.

If you enjoyed this book you should give With Nails a try which is his experiences making Withnail & I and other films and is again written in a very accessible style.

Yes - I've read the book since I first saw the film... Considering all the problems - primarily of course, that unprofessional, unstable woman! - it's quite astonishing that it turned out to be such an excellent film... I watched it again last night and I just love it - wonderful writing, excellent acting and a fascinating look at an aspect of Britain's colonial past (i.e. the expat British community in the run-up to independence) which is rarely portrayed.
