What's Real and What's Not???

Seriously I am curious as to what is real and what's not. In the beginning of the movie we see Jeff Goldblum crying before going on to perform. It seems so very fake. Also the whole Illeana and Moby thing. I love Jeff Goldblum and it feels as though his performance in this was rather bad. Comments?

It's all fake. He really did perform in a production of The Music Man, but that production only existed for the film's sake. The rest was all (poorly) scripted and (weakly) improvised.
