This film could have been MUCH better if... (opinions?)

This film sucked terribly. there is a very weak direction. and bad acting (Nicoleta Braschi is REALLY BAD! do you call that acting??) Though there were some nice ideas.
in my opinion was Jean Reno TOTALLY wasted. what did his character add to the rest of the story?
and Benigni was TOTALLY irritating with his nevrotic obsession for the girl.

this film could have been much better if:
1. the girl would have eventually died
2. Faud teached Benigni a lesson about being nevrotically-selfish and how there are whole families killed every day in Iraq (and other countires), beside his own beloved. And how he should cope with that.
3. the character of Benigni would have gone back home as a changed person (hopefully more relaxesd and less selfish).

that would have been a good twist in the film. not this cheesy crap.

any opinions?

lol you don't know what your saying...

I wouldn't make any change to the film... it's just perfect.

European Industry at his best!

I have to agree with skulk-2 on that. :)

This movie would have been much better if instead of remaining politically neutral, Roberto Benigni had made a statement against Iraq war. Just like he did against the Nazis in Life Is Beautiful. After all, Iraq invasion was/is a crime plotted by an unscrupulous war criminal and his henchmen.
Sadly Roberto chose to stay in safe waters, perhaps he thought that by making an statement against Iraq invasion, his film may not be well received by US audience.
If that was the reason, then it was a wrong decision by Mr. Benigni.

The ending is also very weak. Overall this movie it's not as powerful, touching and funny as Life Is Beautiful, besides some scenes looks really cheesy. I read that this film cost about 35 million dollars, but honestly several scenes looks quite cheap. Compare it to Pan's Labyrinth, a movie that cost much less but every aspect of that film (from CGI to practical effects) looks superb unlike The Tiger and the Snow.

6/10

i totally agree with you, expecially about point 2: people who love this movie seem to not have noticed how selfish and irritating is Benigni in the hospital. I thought it was because the dubbing did not make understand it well (I'm italian so I saw the movie in original language), but then here I found a couple of foreigners who share my point of view
