Mixed Feelings

Okay, so I love the actress who played Charlotte, and I like movies with transsexual characters. However, I just had mixed feelings about both the relationship of Charlotte and Veronica, and the ending to the movie.

For one, I rented this from Netflix, and the disc sleeve stated this movie was about female friendship. Not only was there more than friendship between the two characters, but I felt no chemistry whatsoever between the two. They had nothing at all in common other than the fact that they both were lonely.

They didn't even really get along either. Both were interested in men (I am not saying neither of them could be interested in both - it's just that it seemed to come out of nowhere).

I thought maybe the only reason Charlotte liked Veronica was because Veronica was different, therefore piqued the interest of Charlotte, who may not have known exactly what she wanted. I thought the only reason Veronica liked Charlotte was because Charlotte had the body, breasts and all, of what Veronica desired for herself.

Then the whole romantic thing happened, which seemed so out of place to me. I tried to understand how exactly both felt about the other, but I am not entirely sure still. Maybe Veronica felt like Charlotte accepted her completely, but that's not entirely true because Charlotte threw Veronica out after Veronica told Charlotte about her desire for a sex change.

Maybe Charlotte just wanted something different, but then why tell her ex that she wants to be with him again, then change her mind after ten minutes? I don't believe Charlotte knows what she wants.

Before I could even figure out what was really going on between them, Charlotte tells Veronica that she has a secret to tell her, then lightly kisses her cheek, then they both smile. Let me remind people this is right after Veronica finds out that she is allowed to have the sex change. So either Charlotte decided that she doesn't care if Veronica has the sex change or Veronica decided against having the sex change, which I doubt because Veronica wasn't happy at all with her current body and wouldn't feel any more content with her physical body if she were in a relationship with Charlotte.

So I am left confused when the movie ended. I can say that I loved it because of the performances or the directing style, but hated it because of how annoying Charlotte became with her emotional outbursts, coldness, and inability to be relatable, on top of all the unanswered questions, plus lack of chemistry between the two leads.

So I just don't know how to feel about this movie.
