Young Arnold perfect, old Arnold WTF?

Sounded like a cross between a Chinease and Arabic accent. And I thought the Arnold accent was easy to immitate.

Chinese and Arabic accent? He was played by Jurgen Prochnow, who is German.

Whereas Arnie is AUSTRIAN.

Giving him a somewhat similar but... different accent nonetheless.

And besides... it's Arnie, noone in the world talks like Arnie... slipping in cheesy lines every 10 sentences or so...

I detected a little Colombian in there too. Worst Arnold ever.

Just plain horrible...Older Arnold looked nor sounded anything like Arnie. Also Bob Chick didnt look much like Lou Ferrigno either.Younger Arnold was ok and I was A big fan of Pumping Iron but couldnt stomach this cuz the older Arnold just plain stunk

reply

No, you're right. Older Arnold sucked.

reply

Ok - I have to admit from the outset I am a BIG Arnold fan. However, regardless I am pretty sure I would feel the same even if I wasn't. The older Arnold was absolute *beep* it was as though the actor didn't even research his subject. He sounded like a bad impersonation of the guy who runs my local corner shop! (sorry Apu!) At a distance he did look a little like him (only much smaller) but as for the accent it was ridiculous! wtf! It ruined the whole film. The younger Arnold was OK and on occassions was really good but still not correct. Once again, as for the older Arnie - I COULD DO A BETTER IMPRESSION WITH A CONDOM OVER MY HEAD! It made a mockery of the great achievements that Arnold has made in his life - Like him or hate him this man is the success story of our time.

Ha, awesome. That's one of the best sentences I ever read on any imdb board.

I agree with you..Young Arnold yes! Jurgen Prochnow- NO!!!!! The accent was just too exagerated!!

"I call 'em like I see 'em!"

Completely agree. The accent was horrible. For that matter, so were most of the mannerisms and probably even the dialog as well.

It's not an easy role to cast. Partly because Arnold is a unique guy both physically and verbally. Not only that, but most people are really familiar with him (still see him on a regular basis) so standards are pretty high. That being said, I wouldn't expect perfection. That's asking for too much. But this movie really missed the mark. They didn't even come close.

Young Arnold did a good job. Great job at times even. A couple scenes might have been a bit off, but mostly he was believable as a young Arnold. I can't think of anybody who could do it better, so no complaints there.

Old Arnold was terrible though. Again, it's a tough role to cast. Some pretty big shoes to fill, so to speak. I could accept it if the accent was a bit off but the look was right, or if the accent was spot on, but the look was wrong. But not both. In this he neither looked or sounded anything like Arnold. It was distracting an ruined an otherwize half decent TV movie for me. I've heard hundreds of Arnold impressions over the years, almost all better then this.

For kicks when watching the movie, try to picture the old guy in classic Arnold movie scenes. It's fun in a bizarre kind of way.

This movie didn't straight up miss the mark, it failed to convincingly portray the older Arnold Schwarzenegger. And, for that, I'm willing to give the movie a pass because the rest of it was great- especially what life was like for him when he was a young bodybuilder.

The other portrayals were excellent- Mike Murphy, Arianna Huffington, all of them very in tune with reality.

I must say I am not a big Arnie fan but still was offended by the lack of enthusasism brought by Jurgen Prochnow in playin the older Arnold. It was at least nothing but a mockery, specially intented or not I dont know. While watching the movie Mr. Prochnow made me feel that he didnt care a bit about the person he is portrayin on screen. And I am saying this because I watched many movies which he is in enough to make me acknowledge that he is a fine actor. I think Arnie more than deserves an adequate portrayal of his life and all his achievements. Whaetever ppl may think of him, at the end of the day he is the living example of an American dream come true....

yea,, Jurgen was as fitting as old arnold as Pat Morita playing Osama bin laden. they should have gone with Roland Kickinger all the way, just use make up to make him look older.
