Apache Dance Scene

I liked the movie overall. The costuming, sets, overall production values and acting were very good for a low production film. Psychopathia Sexualis accomplished what it set out to do, give an overview of the human sexuality portion of Richard Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing's studies. Of course it includes all the prejudices and world views of the mid 1800s but his clinical observations on psychology are still influential today. After all, he's the one who invented the terms sadism and masochism.

Anyway, my favorite scene was with the Apache dancers. Since the dance takes gender roles to the extreme, it's violent and the opposite of politically correct. So you don't see it done much. Before this movie, I'd only seen Apache done in clips from the 1930s or earlier. Not counting the watered down, Broadway versions added to musicals in the 1940s and 50s.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
