Anti-Porn or Anti-Violence?

Does anyone else feel there is a vast misread message on this film?

You have Princess who represents Sex.
You have August who represents Violence.

In much of culture (especially American & middle-eastern), violence on TV/movies is accepted. However, sex and even mild nudity is not.

Are people blind to the striking parallels between August and Princess?

Princess's actions twist and pervert Mia.
August's actions hurt and ultimately destroy Mia.

We all see and share August's disgust in Mia mimicking her mother's dancing and behavior. A child far far far beyond her years in action and experience. However do we not see the same things from August? The whole seen with the crowbar may have been one of vengeance for Mia - however what is doing, but mimicking August?

I'm not sure this isn't as much a commentary on violence in the media as it is anti-porn movie.

To me, this movie is both a commentary on the presence of violence, sex and misdirected moralism in the western society.

On one side, there is the sex industry, porn, prostitues and so on. On the other side, there are the guardians of morality, the church, represented by August.

In between these factions are the innocent, the children.
The point of this movie as I see it, is basically that neither of these two factions can in any way justify their actions against the young and innocent.

Mikkel,
You might be correct however that would be too cliche for this film. It's standard fair for independent film makers to group together and equivicate the most depraved and amoral behavior with traditional values and moral standards as if they were both equal valid paradyms.

***spoiler alert***

I think the ending had to have Mia's death because without August she had no were to go. He soul had already been destroyed by her mother's lifestyle. She had zero chance of a normal happy life especially without August.

Notice Charlie leaves a rose on August's grave last of all. This is an act of contrition and acceptance of wrong-doing. I think the film makers are giving a strong implication that Charlie is a changed man and has been redeemed. Also the ending with August, Mia and her mother shows that their spirits are now at rest.

I actually think this film is a defense of violence in the pursuit of a just cause.
