Can anyone help me figure out how this movie really ended?

I am so confused. I loved the movie, but my husband and I are confused about how it ended. Did he die, go to rehab, or what?? Anyone?

My thoughts are he overdosed in the bathroom, and the dream scenareo was what their lives together(overly done on perpose) could have been without the drugs. The flatlining in the ambulance coinsided with the dream couple beeing hit, thus destrying both the fantasy and the reality of the couple together. My speeling sucks, i know, nor do i care. Simplest explanation I can offer, Although there are a few parts of the movie that werent so clear, like when the dream couple was about to be hit, they turned into children for a second, and the whole money exchanging with that other guy, who gave it back, but she still ended up with him? I could assume a lot of different scenearios talking place, I would have liked a bit more clarification. Hope that helps a bit.

Regarding the money transaction. I am fairly sure that she was working with the other guy to scam julius because she knew he still had all that money. So she left her purse behind for a second so he could give her her cut. Julius found the money, realized he got scammed, but because he loved her and needed her in his life he pretended he didn't find it. He even tried to rationalize her actions in his mind (it was her father's bar anyway). She saw that he had found the money, and when he said he loved her instead of getting angry, it touched her. I assume this has something to do with why she stayed with him.

Regarding them turning into children briefly before they were hit, I imagine that symbolizes their innocence dying, which is roughly analogous to their idealized married personas dying as well. Or perhaps it signifies the death of the children they could have potentially had together.

He died; and, yes, it's a dream sequence, but a wildly idealized one.
