I agree with 'Salmo', that technically (in the book as well) only the memories that occur before the point of conception should be passed on to Taylor. I just read the book, but I didn't realize this continuity error until reading this, I am not sure that it happens that way in the book.
It says on Carol's medical record that she was brought into the hospital Dec. 23, 1970. It does not say exactly when she gave birth to Taylor, but it should be within a few days of her admission to the hospital. Then, the article for Allison going missing (at age 5) was Jan. 1, 1971. So, we are led to believe that she gave birth within a few days of Dec. 23, and by Jan. 1, she kidnapped Allison. In the photo album it shows she had Allison for at least 47 days before she escaped.
So, yes, technically Taylor is receiving memories from after his birth, when it should only work up the the point of his birth, I believe. But, no, he is not getting the memories from the kidnapper father, but from his mother, Carol.
The reasoning behind Carol's actions are explained better in the book. Because as a young adult Carol was abducted and raped, her mind twisted a bit. She saw young girls as having perfect innocence, and that if they get older like she did, bad things will happen and you become bad and lose your innocence. So she takes the girls and takes molds of them, recreates them to stay at that perfect age of innocence and as they start to get a bit older, she injects them with something and kills them, in her mind, saving them from something bad ever happening to them.
"I'm trying to see things from your point of view but I can't stick my head that far up my ass."
