Which actress was originally cast as Madeleine?

It says in here that Embeth Davidtz was an "eleventh hour replacement". So who dropped out of this in the 11th hour?

I read somewhere on another thread that it was Connie Nielsen but not sure if that's true. I thought Embeth Davidtz was great in this though.

Interesting, thanks. Yes I agree Davidtz was great in this. I can't imagine Nielsen or anyone else in that part.
