PT Anderson's inspiration for Boogie Nights?

I couldn't stop thinking about Boogie Nights while watching this documentary--the rise and fall of Harry Reems seemed to be quite similar to Dirk Diggler, and Damiano, the director, could have been Jack Horner, with the aspirations to "make a real film."

And then there is the influence of the movie Boogie Nights on this documentary--the soundtrack (some of the same songs--Spill the Wine, Brand New Key), the DVD menu.

I do know that some of Boogie Nights was inspired by John Holmes's story. (The kid with a bad family life gets famous in porn, does lots of drugs, gets involved in a deadly drug rip-off,etc) But,yes,Harry Reems certainly went through bad times too.

They used about 5 songs from the Boogie Nights soundtrack in this film which was kind of a curious choice.
