The Ballad of Ira Hayes

Just heard this on the radio today. Apparently, though covered a lot at the time, this fell off the radar over the decades.

It's quite decent, and the story (downtrodden, volunteers for war, celebrated, forgotten) tracks pretty well with the overall movie themes.

The version here (there's a 30 second preview available for free) I think would have fit rather neatly into something like the closing credits, for example:

I just heard Johnny Cash's recording of 'The Ballad of Ira Hayes' for the first time a couple of years ago. I must admit I didn't realize at the time that the song was about a real person. I imagined the songs lyrics depicted a typical scenario that could have befallen any number of Soldiers from an American Native Indian heritage. A scenario of facing racism and a tough times after bravely fighting for their country in war. Now that I have just seen 'Flags of Our Fathers' I know that Ira Hayes and his story were very real. Any how, this was a fine movie and congratulations to Clint Eastwood on his achievement here.
