Horse movies

I have yet to see a good realistic one that I really like. "The Horse in the Gray Flannal Suit" has the greatest horse shows I've ever seen in a movie, though the rest of it is pretty pointless. Any comments on the shortcomings (or otherwise, if you think so) of horses on the big screen?

My favorite horse movie is "Phar Lap". Amazing horse and an amazing movie.

The Silver Brumby. It always makes me cry. In fact, every horse movie makes me cry at some point.

I loved Phar Lap too. It made me cry. In fact, Ihave a horse that looks like Phar Lap, but doesn't act like him. Is Racing Stripes a horse movie? That's soooooo cool.

reply

Yeah, sort of. I'd consider it one. It's about a zebra that wants to be a racehorse, so there's alot of references to the racing industries in general, and there's heaps of horses in it.

I've never seen it. What's it about?

reply

I love Phar Lap. I cried in the first five minutes of it. I love horse movies I don't care if they're realistic or not.

The Electric Horseman
The Horse Whisperer

Horse movies and really good movies, to boot.

Champions - a true story , the always superb John Hurt , and inspiring theme music which is always played during the bbc grand national coverage.

Let's not forget Misty. I would have to say that it is one of my all time favorites. I wish they had done Stormy and Seastar as well. The movie followed the book exactly, which just goes to show that movies can be made from books with out the director taking "Creative liscense".

Or how about, "Justin Morgan Had a Horse," and "Asspricel." They're both pretty old movies.

I, TurboTehe, love and support the troops 100% And proud of it :)

"Aspercel" is actually The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit. I love that movie.

Good memories.

I swear to god if I see one more horse movie where a girl falls in love with a horse, tames it and wins some big contest or something outrageous like that I will scream

reply

I think there's one never mentioned on this board -
"The Horsemen", directed by John Frankenheimer, with Omar Sharif and Jack Palance. NOT about a little girl who rescues a horse. Really a far leap from your average family horse movie, and has been my personal favorite for ages.
You can find it here on IMDB. DVD is for sale on Amazon.
