Garbage! I want an apology from dreamworks

What the hell was this piece of garbage? This was a multimillion dollar movie? This was about the most boring and predictible movie I've seen in my entire life. I'm sorry, how do movies like this get made these days? They could have shortened this whole movie into about 20 minutes. This whole film is dragged out and what does it lead up to?
This is one of those movies that works as a trailer, and once you've seen it, you've seen the movie.
The idea is done alot, which was one huge thing against this movie. Well, I dont need to cite several exampls of when a film like this was done better, I'll just say the most recent I saw before it. Cinderella man, and that was a great movie.
If you thought this movie was good, I feel sorry for you. You obviously dont get to watch very many movies, and/or are easily pleased.

I am tacking this film up on my worst movie ever list.

yikes dude calm down first of all the movie was done for 31 million thats low budget in film standards. it was the directors first time directing i thought he done a great job. Dont blame it on dreamworks blame it on yourself for spending the money to see it. and by the way i see *beep* loads of movies so dont say "i feel sorry for you" its stupid because many people love dreamer. and you wont get a apoligy from dreamworks they will just laugh in your face for even considering a apoligy. If you want to get a apoligy off someone you wont.

I havent seen the movie, but hope to. Maybe it is all a matter of taste. Many people say Cinderella Man was good, but my wife, after we'd seen it, said she felt like she had been punched in the face for 2 hours. I use to watch a lot of violent movies before I got married, but have developed more of a fondness for good acting/drama, and prefer a 'feel-good' movie, such as I suspect Dreamer to be. I watch alot of movies, I rented or went to the theatre 255 times last year. My wife has a degree in Theatre, and we try to be selective in what we watch. I dont believe there really is much demand for blood and guts in good professional acting, probably more-so amongst the undiscriminating thrill seekers, and the actors who want to make a buck for their bang. I think a better example of good acting than punching someone in the face would be 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'.

You asked how a movie like this gets made these days, and it's a valid question. As a culture we're leaning towards NEEDING a higher budget with lots of special effects to be entertained. Sure, after seeing the preview you could probably figure out that Sonador would win the race and that it would have a victorious and happy ending. It's a simple story and a simple idea, no doubt. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that it's still possible for a simpler movie to be entertaining. There's something that will always be comforting about a heartwarming horse story. I'm glad that Hollywood is still capable of making movies like this. I'm sure I'm probably going to get attacked for saying it, but is it really so bad to be easily pleased every now and then?

P.S: I do watch a large amount of different genres of movies (not just horse stories), and yet I'm quite proud of being easily pleased.

reply

Our entire family thought it was refreshing! Yes, it is a simple movie but very entertaining to all ages. It probably wasn't "your cup of tea" and I respect that but I'm sure others will find it inspiring and refreshing!

Don't hold your breath chrombot!!

Sorry - you happy?? Maybe you should rent the latest American Pie movie. No wait....Slither! Bet you'd love that.

reply

Predictible rehashed forumlaic underdog stories are refreshing? Do I need to name the ones that have come on recently? This movie was not entertaining for all ages, unless you're implying I am ageless. I've seen lower budget films that were good. Squid and the Whale for example, very good film, very low budget. The only thing this movie has going for it is that it's not digitally animated. Nothing saves this movie, not even it's fans.

Dreamer? I say neigh.

dreamworks has yet to reply to my letter, but they will appologize, oh yes....they will.

I'm usually a sucker for horse or any animal movies and this one was so predictable and I agree with the original poster here. Very disappointing. I expected more with Kurt Russell in it.
The whole premise of it was so fake. When a horse breaks it's leg like that no matter how good it heals again, a horse can never race on it. I don't remember seeing such a contrived piece of garbage. It was nicely shot, but the script and the whole idea of it was ridiculous.

yeah, but they supposedly loved the horse so much. If they really loved Sonador, why put her at risk? That's my point!

reply

Because racehorses--good ones, anyway--love to run. A good friend of mine adopted an ex-racehorse, and he loves to run so much that if she doesn't gallop him at least once a week, he gets depressed and stops eating. It's amusing to watch him run around his pasture.

Since the fictional family did love Sonador so much, it's unsurprising that they consulted a veterinarian before 'putting her at risk.' There is always a risk when a horse steps on the racetrack. You don't get into the racing business if you don't accept that. That's why I stick to my pleasure horses. :)

Personally, I found this movie very boring. I thought several good actors' talents were wasted. It was boring and every single second was predictable. I was actually rolling my eyes throughout this movie as I predicted every sentence and move. Honestly, I would only recommend this movie to kids and old women. For everyone else, you'd be better off watching the lameness of Nick Jr.

"When a horse breaks it's leg like that no matter how good it heals again, a horse can never race on it."

you seriously believe that? there have been tons of horses that fractured legs and went on to race again afterwards. for example, Personal Ensign comes to mind. she broke her hind ankle, had surgery to repair it with screws and not only went on to race again but retired undefeated after winning the Breeder's Cup Distaff. personally, i think she would have been a much better "inspiration" than Mariah's Storm.

reply

Now tell me how many racehorses come back from that injury, run in a claiming race and SHOW JUST HOW UNRECOVERED THEY ARE, to then somehow being allowed to run in the hardest race in America and actually win it.

At least Seabiscuit was a superhorse before his injury, and you could believe it (even so he had some prep races in real life before racing in the Santa Anita Handicap for the final time).

You had to be waaay into the characters, the relationships and of course horses to enjoy this movie. The director was. He took his sweet time lingering over small moments allowing the actors to do their thing, allowing the animals' natural beauty to speak for itself. Russell shined the most. Fanning is an adequate actress at best. Her popularity is based on the dubious appeal of an adult sensibility in a child's body. Certainly the script warranted no praise. You almost had to ignore it - which I did willingly.

You know me. I'm just like you. It's two in the morning and I don't know nobody.

I loved this movie, though I adore horses, so I knew I'd like it.

I thought it was excellent, and by the way, I watch tons of movies.

chrombot, I agree with you this movie is terrible. I love horses, by the way and found it sooooo predictable and corny.

Chromedome, When your cup of tea is Beer Fest or Dodgeball of course it will be impossible to find any social redeeming value in this film. Now go and watch some marathon viewings of The Blair Witch Project, and anything with Diesel or Van Damme in it....

My cup of tea? So now you're telling me what I like? You're really bad at it too. I'll take your advice, and go watch "Saving Private Ryan", with one Vin Disel.

Hey ! Chrombot . . . . How's that apology coming ?
